Bolarus was an inhabited planetary system in the Bolian sector of the Alpha Quadrant. A planet in this system, Bolarus IX, was the homeworld of the Bolians.

In 2259, the location of this system was labeled on a stellar cartography chart seen on the USS Enterprise's ready room viewscreen. The system's symbol had a blue color, indicating that it had an affiliation with the United Federation of Planets. (SNW: "Spock Amok", "A Quality of Mercy")

The system's location was labeled in a Federation star chart that was in Fleet Admiral Kirsten Clancy's office at Starfleet Headquarters in 2399 and on the bridge of the USS Titan-A in 2401. Bolarus was in or near to Federation space. (PIC: "Maps and Legends", "The Next Generation", "Disengage")

In 2401, this system's position was labeled on a star chart used by Captain William T. Riker during his attempt at finding the last known location of the SS Eleos XII. (PIC: "The Next Generation")

Location of Bolarus labeled on a star chart (3190)

In 3190, the location of Bolarus was labeled on a star chart used by Commander Paul Stamets for tracking the movement of the Dark Matter Anomaly through the galaxy. (DIS: "The Examples")

Dialog from the Star Trek: Voyager episode "In the Flesh" identified the Bolians as an Alpha Quadrant species. However, the star chart in "Maps and Legends" placed the Bolarus system in the Beta Quadrant.

According to Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 56 & 66) and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Stellar Cartography" pp. 14-15; "Dominion War: Strategy and Battles, 2373-75"), the primary of the Bolarus system was a Class B star. This system was threatened by the Dominion from an occupied Benzar between 2374 and 2375.
