Bo Yeon Kim (born 11 June 1985; age 39) is a South Korean writer and producer who worked on the first three seasons of Star Trek: Discovery.

Kim worked on the first season of Star Trek: Discovery as an executive story editor, the second season as co-producer, and the third season as supervising producer. She and her writing partner, Erika Lippoldt, wrote four episodes and one episode of Star Trek: Short Treks.

In January 2019, Kim and Lippoldt were announced as future showrunners for a planned Section 31 series, starring Michelle Yeoh. However, this series plan was abandoned and the project was reworked as the streaming film Star Trek: Section 31, without Kim and Lippoldt.

Biography[]

According to Kim herself, "Bo Yeon" (spelled "보연" in Korean) is her full first name (Koreans don't have middle names). In an attempt to clarify this, Kim used to hyphenate the two parts of her first name when she was younger, though she eventually found this was problematic when filling out paperwork. Also, the second part of her first name is pronounced "Yawn", and a nickname she has had since middle school is "Boey". [1]

Kim had an international upbringing in five different countries – Portugal, Brazil, Vietnam, South Korea, and Japan – and graduated from UCLA's School of Theater, Film and TV.

Prior to Discovery, she was a staff writer and story editor on the television series Reign (starring Adelaide Kane, Dan Jeannotte, and Jonathan Goad) between 2015 and 2017, for which she also wrote two episodes.
