Bill Krause is a model maker and video/photography producer from Ohio, and contributor to the Star Trek: Ships of the Line calendar series, under the aegis of its editor-in-chief, Star Trek veteran Doug Drexler. An accomplished model maker, Krause came to the attention of Drexler when he entered two Star Trek-themed (physical) starship models into the May 2015 Louisville, Ky, "WonderFest" model competition. [1] "Doug asked me to submit something for the Ships of the Line calendar, which I think started for me in 2015," Krause remembered, though he was wrong in his recollections, as it was 2018 when he made his official Star Trek franchise debut – though 2015 was the year when he entered WonderFest for the first time, an event he attended every year since. Even though Krause is able to create models digitally, he preferred to composite his Calendar contributions using physicals models. [2]

Drexler's close friend and likewise veteran co-worker on numerous Star Trek productions including Star Trek: Picard and WonderFest regular, John Eaves, brought Krause to the attention of Dave Blass, the production designer on Picard's second, and third seasons. Krause became officially involved in the production, albeit uncredited, when he was hired by Blass once he had decided that the conference lounges of both the USS Stargazer and the USS Titan-A warranted the presence of golden legacy models, and whose construction Blass entrusted to Krause, [3] who in the process created the Radiant-class as one of the Stargazer legacy models. [4]

Additionally, he co-designed the USS Titan herself with his sponsor Drexler as a Constitution III-class vessel, [5] which was in effect a refinement of his own Shangri-La-class (β), [6] the class-vessel model Krause had, as one of his submissions, entered into the 2015 WonderFest model competition, and which had brought him to the attention of Drexler in the first place. The Duderstadt-class vessel USS Intrepid was created by the tandem in similar fashion. [7]

Krause has two in-universe characters named after him; an Admiralty Board member as referenced on the dedication plaque of the USS Titan-A, [8] and a serving crewmember on the same ship as referenced on a duty roster of the USS Titan-A. [9] While it is tempting to assume that these two characters are one and the same, this has not been established in canon.

Krause communicates with the outside world through his X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram accounts under the pseudonym "admiralbuck", and where he habitually showcases multiple samples of his abilities.
