Bajoran shrine 2369

Bajoran temple DS9

The Bajoran temple in 2375

A Bajoran temple (also called a Bajoran shrine) was a place of worship for the Bajoran faith.

There was a temple located on the Promenade of Deep Space 9. The temple held services several times daily, and was where prayers were offered to the Prophets. On occasions when Orbs passed through Deep Space 9, they were kept in a chamber inside the temple, protected by a force field. The temple was established aboard the station during the Occupation of Bajor. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)

During the Bajoran Gratitude Festival, on Deep Space 9, the Presider made an opening address in front of the temple. (DS9: "Fascination")

In 2369, Vedek Winn Adami visited the Bajoran shrine. Commander Sisko met her there for the first time. The shrine was illuminated by several candles and featured large statues for decoration at the walls. (DS9: "In the Hands of the Prophets")

In the weeks leading up to the start of the Dominion War in 2373, Morn went berserk after hearing Quark's prediction of the coming doom. He hit Quark with a barstool and ran through the Promenade and into the temple, completely naked, and began crying to the Prophets for protection. (DS9: "Blaze of Glory")

In 2374, the temple was the site of a dramatic change in Bajoran and Federation affairs. Gul Dukat, possessed by a Pah-wraith he had released on Cardassia Prime, transported into the temple, killed Jadzia Dax, and released the wraith into the Orb of Contemplation. This started a celestial war between the Prophets and the Pah-wraith that ultimately collapsed the entrance to the Bajoran wormhole. (DS9: "Tears of the Prophets")

The Promenade floor plan

According to the Promenade floor plan from the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Technical Manual (p. 182), the Bajoran shrine was located opposite to Quark's on the Promenade. The entrance to the shrine was modified during DS9 Season 2, where it served as a storefront in "Sanctuary" and Club Martus in "Rivals", before being converted back to the shrine in "Whispers".
