Scott playing bagpipes

Bagpipes were a form of Earth musical instrument native to Scotland. They were used to play traditional military and religious music in recent centuries.

Montgomery Scott, a native of Scotland, had a set of Great Highland Bagpipes in his quarters during 2268. (TOS: "By Any Other Name") He played Amazing Grace in honor of his friend and commanding officer, Captain Spock, at his memorial service in 2285 aboard the USS Enterprise. (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)

The real-life piper who played the version of Amazing Grace which was used during the funeral scene in the film was Kathleen Nicholson Graham.
