As a scalar quantity, acceleration was the rate of change of speed with respect to time. As a vector quantity, acceleration was the rate of change of velocity with respect to time.

Units of measurements for (the magnitude of) acceleration included gravity of Earth, Earth normal gravity, or g. (TOS: "The Cage"; TAS: "Beyond the Farthest Star", "Once Upon a Planet"; ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II"; DIS: "Brother")

In the metric system, the standard gravity of Earth is by definition 9.80665 meters per second squared.

In 2369, Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge described what it would be like for a spaceship, upon entering the Borg transwarp conduit, being accelerated to a high warp velocity as "like falling into a fast moving river and being swept away by the current." (TNG: "Descent")
