Volunteer Editing on Medium Is an Absolute Waste of Time

Here is why I won’t edit drafts from my favorite publication, ILLUMINATION-Curated, and will continue supporting it as a publisher, curator, and promoter.

This story from an editor who lives for the craft might come as a shock. But trust me, my findings will help you understand this dire decision.

I have been editing stories for ILLUMINATION-Curated for two years and immensely enjoyed the process, as most of the stories submitted to this publication are high quality, impactful, and captivating compared to our other publications.

When the publication became a formal boost nominating pub, I volunteered to edit all nominatable stories as a giveback activity.

I also managed the review process among subject matter experts, served as an SME for health and science topics, and participated in the voting process to offer our best stories to readers, especially to Friends of Medium, who pay three times more than others.

These activities consumed significant time, but I did not mind, as I am retired and have enough time for charitable activities, which delight me.
