Can i have a tool item texture whilst having a custom tool model

hey, just wondering/hoping that there is a way to have a 2D item texture and a 3D item model for a tool. (Ex: the trident has a 2D item while being a 3D model in-hand)

i have a drill/chainsaw with item textures applied but in-game it just shows the model in the inventory, it seems everything gotta be a struggle with my stuff and i hope someone can reply fast.
