3$\begingroup$ I had checked his book (1965) from the Internet Archive. It is freely available. The term hyperparameter does not exist there at all. May be Good's memory was fading when he gave this interview. $\endgroup$– ACRCommented Aug 13, 2023 at 18:55

3$\begingroup$ @AChem There's no need to postulate that Good's memory was fading. He claims only that he came up with the term "flattening constant" before Fienberg and Holland did. His use of the term "hyperparameter" in 1996 may have been because he thought that, in the world of 1996, that term was more familiar to his readers, not because he thought he had used the word "hyperparameter" originally. But I agree with you that the 1996 interview does not give us any more information about who coined the term "hyperparameter." $\endgroup$– Timothy ChowCommented Aug 17, 2023 at 12:03

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. ag.algebraic-geometry), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
