$\begingroup$ From cursory glancing over it, do I understand correctly that technology here was used as an educational tool or was it meant as a conclusive part of the mathematical exercise? $\endgroup$– David MulderCommented Jun 9, 2014 at 3:09

$\begingroup$ It is an environment for mathematics education, meaning that it contains tools used to manipulate linked mathematical representations. Students use these tools for various purposes in the context of the curriculum activities. The educational aspect of the environment comes from the students use of tools acting on mathematical representations, interpreting mathematical representations, having discussions about their own contributions and the contributions of other students, etc. $\endgroup$– JPBurkeCommented Jun 9, 2014 at 8:34

$\begingroup$ @DavidMulder I added a long edit that gives a taste of what a SimCalc MathWorlds activity is like. I have conducted SimCalc activities, often for workshop groups of middle or high school students. Some of the activities are easy enough to explain that they can be accomplished in much less than a class period. Last month I had middle school students using motion detectors and SimCalc in order to challenge other teams of students to interpret position graphs and then physically act out motions. $\endgroup$– JPBurkeCommented Jun 9, 2014 at 9:37

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. undergraduate-education), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
