Marvel and Maker Studios team up for geektastic go90 show

LOS ANGELES -- The Marvel Universe is coming to Maker Studios.

The Culver City-based digital entertainment company announced this week that it is partnering with fellow Disney subsidiary Marvel Entertainment for a new series on Verizon's go90.

Marvel’s Off the Rack, which debuted on Wednesday, follows host Comic Book Girl 19 (who is part of the Maker network) as she delves into the world of Marvel comics.

The comedic variety show will feature guests from both the digital and traditional spaces, including rapper Method Man, voice actor Billy West (Ren & Stimpy) and Paul Scheer (The League). YouTube guests from Maker's network include Commander Holly, Strawburry17, Alphacat and Comicstorian.

All guests will be given the opportunity "defend their fandoms and loyalties within the Marvel universe."

The first episode focuses on Spider-Man, aka Peter Parker, and his new career as a tech company CEO. It also dishes tips on how to best navigate a local comic book shop.

The rest of the series, which is 12 episodes total, will be available weekly through the end of June.

Over the last year, Maker Studios has ramped up its original content with several new series — such as Scare PewDiePie, a YouTube Red series that launched last week; the digital talk show Party Fun Times, hosted by Taryn Southern; and the skateboard travel adventure The Unge Quest, starring German gamer Simon Unge.

More recently, the company announced an animated series with comedian and social media star The Fat Jew and a slate of originals with James Franco. It has also made series for Verizon's go90 (including a Star Wars inspired series) and Snapchat.

However, Marvel’s Off the Rack marks the first time Maker has collaborated with another Disney giant.

“We are huge fans of all things Marvel and had such a great experience working with the team on this show,” Kendra Johnson, Maker's head of distribution and strategic partnerships, said in a statement. “The series is a perfect addition to our diverse slate on go90, and we are excited to bring the Marvel Universe to the platform.”

John Cerilli, VP Content & Programming for the Marvel Digital Media Group, added they "had an amazing time" collaborating with Maker.
