NPower | Launching Tech Careers. Transforming Lives.

Notes from the Frontline During COVID-19

Issue Five

Virtual instruction, Military Appreciation Month
and new Board members

It’s hard to believe that we have been sheltering in place for over two months. This pandemic has taught us just how unified and connected we are as human beings. It has also exposed the profound inequities that exist in our culture across our healthcare, financial services, employment and education systems. We, at NPower, remain focused on our mission to serve as a bridge to employment for young adults and veterans from vulnerable communities. Below you will get a glimpse of our plans for the next class cycle this fall, along with a perspective on virtual learning from a veteran graduate. We wish you a relaxing Memorial Day. Thank you, as always, for your support of NPower.

NPower Program Remains 100% Virtual

Applications for fall Tech Fundamentals classes are open. Given that reopening plans vary significantly by state, we have decided to continue operating  with the launch of fall classes that begin on September 8th. Participants will continue to train five days a week, four-to-six hours a day to gain the technical and professional skills they will need for technology careers forecasted to grow in 2021.

Our Cybersecurity program, offered to NPower alumni in the New York/New Jersey and Texas regions, begins on July 27th. We want to thank AT&T for their investment in the cybersecurity program and overall support of veterans who need access to in-demand skills.

National Military Appreciation Month

May is Military Appreciation Month and Memorial Day is just around the corner. We invite you to learn more about veteran graduates of our program and consider hiring them for open remote positions.

Meet Shauntrel Brown

Shauntrel joined the U.S. Navy after high school. Upon completing his enlistment, he pursued several college programs and even moved to various cities in search of a new career where he could thrive. He discovered NPower through a military transition program in San Jose, and has completed the program, obtaining multiple IT certifications.

Now, Shauntrel proudly works as an Information Technology Specialist at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and has nearly tripled his salary. As an NPower ambassador, he continues to pay it forward as a veteran helping fellow veterans successfully transition from military to civilian life.

Shauntrel’s story mirrors the grit and dedication of many of our students, many of which are one opportunity away from launching a successful career in tech.

“Combining what I have learned at NPower with my work experience and prior education, I am much more knowledgeable about the tech field.”
