NPower | Launching Tech Careers. Transforming Lives.
SERVING THOSE WHOSERVED OUR COUNTRY
Dear Friend,

Today, we pause to express our deep gratitude and sincere appreciation to our Veterans for their brave and selfless service to our country. We, at NPower, remain steadfast in our commitment to make their transition to civilian tech careers as successful as possible. For the last 10 years, we have been providing free technology upskilling, professional development, social service support and job placement services to over 1,500 of our country’s veterans and their spouses around the country.

We have been struck by the immense challenges men and women face after leaving military service:
  • Over two-thirds report difficulties adjusting to civilian life emotionally
  • Nearly 8 in 10 leave the military without job prospects
  • More than 40% of service members leave the military without having identified permanent housing
  • Women, minorities and younger veterans report having the most trouble transitioning to quality educational institutions and rewarding careers.
NPower is part of an ecosystem focused on reversing these trends and assuring successful reintegration for veterans and their families through quality employment and job training. Fifteen percent of NPower staff around the country are veterans, so we know first-hand that veterans offer tremendous value to the workforce. We are honored to have so many of our corporate partners share this same commitment to create opportunities for those who have served.

National Apprenticeship Week

National Apprenticeship Week | November 8–14, 2020 | Building Skills, Expanding Opportunity
NPower has pioneered an IT Generalist and Cyber Security Support Technician Apprenticeship program with the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to offer a nationally recognized credential to our graduates and to support your company’s entry-level technology-related recruitment goals.
This National Apprenticeship week, which is also Cybersecurity Week, we celebrate over 135 NPower graduates who serve as registered apprentices around the country. Through our partnership with the DOL, and dozens of hiring partners and funders, NPower is able to prepare veterans, military spouses, and young adults for success in an evolving tech workforce.

Veteran Student Success Stories

Christian Nguekam

Cybersecurity Fall 2019

Christian Nguekam

U.S. AIR FORCE

Senior Oracle Database Administrator and Cybersecurity Liaison
Lockheed Martin Corporation
As a transitioning U.S. Air Force veteran, Christian discovered NPower through the Department of Defense SkillBridge program. With a keen interest in launching a cybersecurity career and concern about his career prospects after the military, Christian relocated to Baltimore to ensure he gained valuable civilian work experience and professional skills. Although the relocation process was challenging, he knew this step of faith would create opportunities for career advancement and benefit his family in the future. Despite his significant commute to attend class, Christian remained dedicated and determined to succeed in the program. His determination paid off and now he is a Senior Oracle Database Administrator and Cybersecurity Liaison at Lockheed Martin Corporation and earning 30% more than he was prior to joining NPower.
“After leaving U.S. Air Force active duty, I attended the Maryland cybersecurity program and passed my Security+ exam on the first attempt. NPower gave me the training I needed to secure a cybersecurity job with one of the top DoD contractors in the nation.”

Doris Urbina Hernandez

U.S. ARMY RESERVIST

Security Analyst
Suez North America
Doris currently serves our country as a US Army reservist. In early 2018, unemployed and with a growing interest in IT, she joined NPower to explore the possibility of a new career path. Doris was an inspiration throughout the program: rallying classmates, taking on leadership roles, developing study sessions and materials, and motivating fellow students during a particularly challenging subject. She landed a paid internship with Pearson Education and then returned to NPower to advance her skills in the 2019 Cybersecurity program. Doris joined SUEZ North America as a Security Analyst over a year ago and is well on her way to a successful and fulfilling career in tech.
“My experience at NPower was filled with new, fun and challenging learning experiences. This program pushed me forward to accomplish all my goals and to be the best I can be. Coming to NPower has been a life-changing event which has prepared me for not only the IT field, but has also expanded my communication skills and broadened my future potential.”

NPowerMATCH | Become a Mentor, Inspire the Future of Tech

Mentorship Matters

We all know the importance of professional support when starting and advancing in our careers. For many of our veteran trainees, that extra guidance and coaching is critical to their success. That is why we have launched NPowerMATCH, a one-to-one virtual mentorship program to provide deeper support of our students during and after their internship phase in the program. Whether you are an alumnus, board member, hiring partner, community partner or funder, we are asking that you consider being a mentor. No tech experience required.
