NPower | Launching Tech Careers. Transforming Lives.

CELEBRATING BLACK EXCELLENCE

As we celebrate Black History Month, this is the time for reflection, honor, and celebration as we recognize the significant contributions and sacrifices made by African American pioneers like Martin Luther King Jr, Rosa Parks, Katherine Johnson and so many others that have impacted our country’s history.

This is also the time to pause and look at ourselves, our communities, and to the future. So many over the years have paved pathways of progress. How can we individually and collectively build upon that progress? As a tech training organization committed to advancing race and gender equity in the tech industry, we challenge ourselves each day to find ways to create more opportunities for Black people - and all people of color - to excel in the tech workforce.

The past few years have revealed significant inequities in physical and mental health, education and the economy - especially within minority communities. Through technology we can advance equity, reduce barriers to quality employment, and increase access to opportunity for the next generation of Black History Makers.

Join us in celebrating Black History Month by reflecting on how you and your personal and professional networks can do your part in building on the pathways of progress to advance communities of color.

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT

We are proud to be a member of the OneTen Talent Developer Network as one of the preferred talent providers working together to support their mission to hire and advance one million Black Americans without 4 year degrees into family-sustaining careers in the next 10 years.

As a tech training organization, we equip Black talent with the technical and professional skills to succeed on the job, work to shatter systemic barriers, and shift practices that hinder our students from excelling in the tech workforce.

Meet Terrence Griffin | NPower Missouri Graduate
Data Annotation Specialist | Accenture Federal Services

Terrence was pursuing a college degree but was unsure of what direction to take as a career. He decided to take a break due to the financial toll it was putting on him and search for a job. He fell into a vicious cycle of employment from retail to construction. When the pandemic hit, Terrence found himself unemployed and back to searching on job boards when he discovered NPower.

While he had an interest in technology, he assumed he would need a degree to pursue this field and wanted an alternative option that would be less of a financial burden. Excelling throughout the program, he was offered a direct hire position with Accenture Federal Services (a subsidiary of Accenture, a OneTen partner employer) as a Data Annotation Specialist and has increased his earning potential significantly since joining NPower.

Terrence is excited about his future in tech and plans to explore the fields of AI and Data Science as his grows in his career.

“NPower is one of the most influential and honest programs I’ve experienced. They let you know right up front all of the hard work it will take, but provide you the support to see it through.”
