Bridging the Gap for Women Everywhere

Spring is here and we’re looking forward to seeing new opportunities blossom. We are continuing to expand as we launched Path2TECH, a new program for women who are looking to pursue a career in full-stack development this month.

We still have a ways to go to bridge the gender gap in the technology space. Despite progress, a significant gender gap persists in the tech industry. The World Bank reports that women occupy only 35% of tech roles in the United States, and 65% of recruiters recognize biases that impede the recruitment process. In response, we're doubling down on our efforts to support women in tech through Path2TECH, aiming to bridge this gap and empower women to reach their full potential.

As we commemorate Women's History Month, we renew our dedication to promoting equity within the tech sector and beyond. Together, we can forge a more equitable and thriving future for everyone.

Prior to joining NPower, Katie was struggling to find a career path. She knew that working in retail was not a long-term career option for her. And when she found out about NPower from a friend, Katie made the decision to dive headfirst into the program. After graduating from NPower, she launched her tech carer as a Desktop Support Specialist. Katie is making her mark in tech recently promoted to Senior Service Desk Analyst from Information Technology Service Desk Technician.

Support Our NEW Path2TECH Program

This month we launched Path2TECH, our inaugural software development program inspired by the Command Shift Coalition’s foundational research, the Equation for Equality, and we are thrilled to invite you to join us in supporting this groundbreaking initiative.

Path2TECH paves the way for more women, especially those from under-resourced communities, to enter and excel in the tech industry.

We’re looking for support from the Command Shift Community to support Path2TECH in several key areas:

Hiring Talent: Consider hiring graduates from our Path2TECH program. By doing so, you not only tap into a diverse pool of talent but also contribute to fostering a more inclusive workforce.
Mentorship Opportunities: We are looking for dedicated professionals to serve as mentors for our Path2TECH participants. Your guidance and support can significantly impact their journey to success.
Professional Development Support: We are excited to connect with individuals or organizations willing to assist our trainees with activities such as resume writing and technical interviewing. Your expertise can empower our Path2TECH participants to navigate the job market with confidence.

CELEBRATING WOMEN'S ACHIEVEMENTS

NPower Maryland recently hosted a Women's History Month celebration, exploring the tech industry through the lens of women who made significant contributions in the field and discussed career development, diversity, mentorship, and latest tech trends.

The event celebrated women's strength and diversity in IT, inspiring the future generation of women to pursue their own paths in the industry. Panel members included Gloria Zayas, Lead Dedicated Technical Account Manager at Google Cloud Consulting, Kendra Parlock, Vice President of Partnership Development at NPower, Cherese Queen, Senior Scrum Master at Charles Schwab, and Diamond Staley, Alumni Engagement Manager at NPower. The attendees gained valuable insights into navigating the dynamic world of IT and fostering inclusive environments.
