Dear Friends,

This academic year has been our first full year back in-person after the pandemic, and we are so excited to see the incredible work our students are producing as this year culminates in a full slate of exhibitions and performances.

We’ve been busy this spring, gathering in studios, rehearsal spaces, workshops and laboratories, and we wanted to highlight a sampling of what our students will be showcasing in the coming weeks.

  • Dance Repertory Theatre returns April 7 with PIVOT, featuring a series of new works by renowned guest artists, faculty and student choreographers.

  • On April 8, the Visual Arts Center will open three new exhibitions of student work: Over/Under: 2022 Design M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition; Colossal Wait: 2022 Senior Art Exhibition; and No Longer, Not Yet: 2022 Senior Design Exhibition. These exhibitions will feature works from graduating M.F.A. in Design students and seniors in the B.F.A. in Studio Art and B.F.A. in Design programs.

  • The Department of Theatre and Dance closes out its season with a production of Caryl Churchill’s play Love and Information, which runs April 13–24 in the Brockett Theatre.

  • In the Butler School of Music, the spring calendar is packed with student performances, solo recitals, ensemble concerts and symphony and orchestra performances. There’s something for everyone in the mix, from UT Symphony Orchestra performing major works with winners of the Butler School Concerto Competitions on May 2 and 3 to Butler Opera Center’s performance of Georges Bizet’s Carmen from April 22–May 1.

  • On May 13, you can see Painted Hooves: 2022 Studio Art M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition at the Visual Arts Center, featuring a variety of new work from 16 graduate students in the M.F.A. in Studio Art program.

  • And in case you missed it, our students in the Department of Arts and Entertainment Technologies designed a series of amazing experiences for guests at Buzzfest in Bee Caves a few weekends ago. You can see photos from that event here.

We hope you’ll take some time to explore the work of our students this spring—this is just a small sampling of what’s happening in our college this spring. We already know what starts here changes the world, and you’ll have an insider’s look at what’s next with this new generation of artists, performers, designers and educators.

Some of you may be receiving Dean’s Insider for the first time, and if that’s the case, we want to welcome you. We’re expanding our reach with this monthly message to include our college’s faculty and staff, along with our longtime audience of Fine Arts Advisory Council and friends of the college. Welcome!

Sincerely,

Dean Ramón H. Rivera-Servera
