"the actor(s) (if any) holds copyright in the acting" - Since when? The only case I've heard of where a court said that an actor got copyright was overturned on appeal.– D MCommented Jun 2, 2018 at 16:15

"Almost certainly, every MP3 of every song is covered by copyright; that is, someone, somewhere owns the copyright" If the recording was made prior to 1972 (and later converted to MP3) under US law it is not protected by copyright, although it may have weaker protection under state law.– David SiegelCommented Nov 15, 2018 at 19:10

The US copyright office will search its records (for a fee) to try to determine who holds the copyright in a given work, and what address to contact to ask permission for use. This does not always give a useful answer, but often it does.– David SiegelCommented Nov 15, 2018 at 19:13

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. united-states), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
