Presumably this would only identify a unique individual if they had a unique type of computer. Otherwise, you would expect that everyone using a Foocorp Model 1234 computer would have identical (or statistically indistinguishable) performance stats for all possible tests, and therefore would not be identifiable from each other. Now, whether that makes a difference legally, I don't know.– Nate EldredgeCommented Jun 27 at 0:18

Do you have an explanation of what this code actually does? It has the word performance in it but all I see is a bunch of maths that possibly could measure the performance of some computer hardware but not the performance of the user.– quaragueCommented Jun 27 at 7:05

@quarague I do not feel well qualified to do so, I was wondering which SE site to ask about that. I THINK it is to fingerprint a particular computer by the performance of the hardware but I could be wrong.– User65535Commented Jun 27 at 7:52

You can easily identify people using very expensive top of the range computers. And have a marketing campaign aimed at people who spent more than £6,000 on their computer.– gnasher729Commented Jun 28 at 6:44

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. united-states), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
