Yesterday, Clean Cooking Association of Kenya (CCAK) officially handed over clean cooking solutions to REREC Mtwapa Energy Centre. 🎉🎁
This low-key event aimed at contributing to the operations of the energy center by equipping it with additional clean cooking solutions to enable the center to advance awareness creation, training, and demonstration on the available modern cooking fuels and technologies in the market. 🌍🍽️📚
The setting up of the Mtwapa Center Clean Cooking Energy hub is part of the initiatives under the recently concluded Accelerating Clean Cooking Action in Kenya (ACCA) Project which was implemented by CCAK in partnership with the Ministry of Energy of Kenya, funded by the Japan - The Government of Japan through UNDP. 🤝

DREEM 2024 CONFERENCE
It was a great pleasure meeting the over 90 participants at the 2024 Distributed Renewable Energy Ecosystem Model (DREEM) partners conference (#DREEMConference2024). The DREEM is a core strategy for the Mott Foundation to support the productive use of primarily solar energy to enable last mile off grid communities prepare and thrive amidst the severe impacts of the ongoing global climate change crisis. The DREEM is a systems approach advancing several reinforcing strategies around skills and workforce development, youth entrepreneurship, innovative financing, community-led sustainable transformation, cross cutting themes (communications, innovation, policy engagements etc) as well as ecosystem partner coordination and support.
What started as a simple idea nearly 10 years ago supported by Mott and our network of partners in Tanzania and around the world has grown across East Africa and brought together numerous partners from various walks of life including government agencies, private sector, entrepreneurs, entrepreneur support organizations, development agencies, financial institutions and many others. I was impressed by the willingness of governments of Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya to collaborate with non-state actors to bring the DREEM to its full fruition.
I was inspired by the innovations and creativity of local and international entrepreneurs working and serving climate vulnerable communities in the most difficult markets; the passion of non-profit actors. I am also especially grateful to the conference organizers led by Kenya Climate Innovation Center (KCIC) (#DREEMHubKenya); WWF (#DREEMHubTanzania) and Heifer International (#DREEMHubUganda) and all other DREEM Hub partners and participants. We are also grateful to @AfricaCenterForMediaExcellence (@ACME) for coordinating the media fraternity and ensuring that more people than the nearly 100 in the room got the message via various media platforms.
We may not prevent climate change from upending the lives of everyone in East Africa and beyond, but all our DREEM partners in the region showed to me that thousands of lives are served. They showed that we are much better off because of the various small and big solutions are all advancing individually and most importantly collectively within the DREEM Partnership.

DYK: CLASP research found that small businesses and farms increased their incomes when using efficient, renewable appliances? In a recent series of field tests in Rwanda, we found that energy-efficient appliances and technologies cost less to operate than fossil fuel equivalents and produce less pollution: https://lnkd.in/gDq36EJU
As more off-grid and weak-grid appliances and products come on the market over the last two decades, CLASP has carried out extensive field testing to help consumers, distributors, and governments make sound decisions about which models to invest in.
This project was conducted by CLASP and EED Advisory with the support of Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) and the The World Bank. The appliances tested were electric pressure cookers, electric motorbikes, solar water pumps, and solar-powered fridges.
