BasiGo Rwanda has been awarded a RWF 300 million (USD 225,000) recoverable grant from Ireme Invest, the Rwanda Green Fund 's green investment facility. The financing will be used by BasiGo to upgrade its charging infrastructure needed to support its rapidly growing fleet of electric public transport buses in Kigali. A charging station that supports at least 20 E-Buses in one night will be established. In June 2024, the Rwanda Green Fund announced its first round of investments worth a total of USD 2.7 million into 16 different companies that are fostering a vibrant circular economy, promoting sustainable cities, supercharging smart mobility and advancing climate-smart agriculture. BasiGo Rwanda is listed among 9 innovative businesses offering solutions with high potential for scalability, financial sustainability, positive environmental and economic impact across three of Ireme Invest’s investment areas. #BasiGoDelivers #GreenRwanda #LetsGreenRwanda

The proposed tax changes in the present Finance Bill 2024 risk reversing the tremendous gains made in Kenya’s e-mobility sector. We support the recommendation by the Ministry of Roads and Transport to retain the current tax exemptions for the first 100,000 EVs (including e-buses, two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers) to be imported or locally assembled in Kenya, and to remove the current excise duty tax on e-buses, reducing it from 10% to zero. Implementing these measures will encourage the continued adoption of e-mobility technology, such as charging infrastructure and dedicated EV assembly lines, and create a conducive climate to attract potential investors and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to operate in Kenya. Currently, there are 2,128 electric vehicles registered and operating in Kenya. These exemptions have facilitated the registration of over 2,000 EVs, with consumers benefiting from a 30-40% reduction in transport costs over the past year. Increased adoption of e-mobility will help Kenya meet its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 32% by 2030, with public transport accounting for a major source of these emissions.
