Today, we will introduce the Zirconium oxide method. <Zirconium Oxide Method (Limiting Current Type)> When the oxygen pumping action is performed in the gas diffusion chamber restricted by the gas diffusion holes, the current keeps a constant value though the zirconia element even if the voltage applied to the zirconia element is increased. This constant current is called limiting current. This limiting current is proportional to the oxygen concentration in sample gas, so the oxygen concentration can be measured by measuring limiting current. The electromotive force increases as the temperature of the zirconium oxide element is heated. By measuring this electromotive force and the temperature of the zirconia element, the oxygen concentration in the sample gas can be obtained. Today, we will introduce the Electrochemical cell method. < Electrochemical cell method (Galvanic Cell Type) > When a metal (a positive electrode) that is soluble in an electrolyte and a metal (a negative electrode) that is insoluble are immersed in the electrolyte, the metal dissolves at the positive electrode and releases electrons, which reach the negative electrode. At the negative electrode, the oxygen permeated through the thin film takes in electrons. Since the current by this electron flow is proportional to the oxygen permeated through the thin film, the oxygen concentration can be obtained by measuring this current.
