MPs play a crucial role in shaping local, regional, and national agendas, with the power to mobilize and influence change. By combining this influence with increased local agency, transformative actions in food systems can be expanded and strengthened. Despite political challenges, raising public awareness can help future-proof these initiatives and spark a grassroots movement. #MPs #FoodSystems #CommunityEngagement Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Kipkemoi arap Kirui, LLB

Urban #Refugees in Burundi are struggling with increasing flooding! The recent flooding in Burundi has brought with it a devastating impact, particularly for vulnerable urban #refugee populations. https://lnkd.in/gA9m-jht https://lnkd.in/g_Hyg4RQ The flooding has exacerbated the already precarious conditions faced by refugees in Burundi, many of whom have fled conflict and persecution in neighboring countries. It has also affected severely their hosting communities. Urgent action is needed to ensure their safety and well-being, including access to emergency shelter, food, clean water, and medical care. #BurundiFloods #RefugeeCrisis #HumanitarianAid Amina Bouarour; R. Impact Investment Exchange (IIX) representing #OrangeMovementforGenderEquality at the forum on Accelerating Investment for Climate and Clean Energy! Thank you to the team at Private Financing Advisory Network (PFAN) UNIDO and REEEP - Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership for having us highlight the great overlap between climate action and gender equality, an overlap that often goes unacknowledged and almost always goes without action. We were thrilled to see gender-lens investing be a main pannel discusion at the event. We hope to see ecosystem players, especially funders, not only “realize” that women are key to a climate-resilient future but also bank on it. #OrangeMovement #genderclimatenexus #investinginwomen #impactinvestment #genderlensinvesting #sustainablefinance

IT’S OUT!!! This is the first global project I worked on post-maternity leave. I’m so proud of it. ❤️ Our team put in months and months of work putting together a compelling document… 🔗showing the link between climate migration and informal settlements 😐debunking the often-held view that migration flows from developing (low- or middle-income countries) to developed ones —most climate migration happens within country borders from rural to urban areas, and 💴calling for investments towards urban informal settlement upgrading as a climate adaptation mechanism. Please read the issue brief ⤵️ #HomeEquals #G7Italy

During this #IDAHOBIT day, and with the EU elections ahead, let's strive to build inclusive and respectful societies that position equality on top of the human rights agenda. A society where everyone can be who they are, and love who they want. And data-wise, LGBTQI+ #children face discrimination because of their sexual orientation (71%) and gender identity (51%). Let's do our best for them to live without fear of violence and/or discrimination. #MissingChildrenEurope has launched a nezw project that aims to support LGBTIQ+ children who are at risk of being homeless, running away or being forced to leave their home. #IDAHOBIT2024

"Well-managed migration and migrants’ agency and contributions can be harnessed to accelerate sustainable development, and to chart a course towards resilient prosperity in SIDS. By embracing policies that facilitate safe, orderly, and regular migration, SIDS can unlock the potential of human mobility to drive sustainable development." That is our overall message at the 4th Conference on Small Islands Developing States (#SIDS) underway today in Antigua and Barbuda (27-30 May).

Speaking at today’s third #GlasgowDialogue at the #BonnClimateConference, GNDR's Adessou Kossivi, on behalf of the #Togo delegation, called for #LossandDamage funds to be the “most flexible funds in the UN Climate Change mechanism.” “Climate change is a #risk accelerator that continues to break lives and hopes. It is more urgent than ever to support communities who are absent here and don’t have the means or capacity to withstand the adverse impacts of climate change.” Adessou continued by saying we remain hopeful that the world will start to see the positive impact of loss and damages funds soon. Initiatives such as #EarlyWarning4All, and the collaboration of actors working across loss and damage, can enhance the #resilience of communities at risk. These initiatives though can only be effective with sufficient funding, and the inclusion of #civilsociety, #communitybasedorganisations and the private sector. And importantly, the funds must be flexible, agile and rapidly accessible to those actors best placed to build community resilience in the long term. #ClimateFinance #ClimateJustice #SB60 #DisasterRiskReduction

Did you know that an IFC study in 2019 concluded that 50% of the sampled companies in #Lebanon have female board members, with #women representing 14% of all board members. Furthermore, 47% of these companies have one to two female board members, and 3% have three to four female board members? It is time to lobby for an equitable representation of women at the corporate level. #Numberoftheweek #genderequality #DEI #WOB Lebanese League for Women in Business LLWB

📢The 2024 IOM World Migration Report is OUT! This is IOM's flagship report and is THE go to for migration research for policy-makers, think tanks, students, researchers, journalists, IOM staff, the UN in general, and much more! Take a look at the report here 👉🏽 https://lnkd.in/efDsCCkf Here is a snapshot of some of the big takeaways though, so you have an idea of what's inside. 💡The majority of migration in the world is #regular, it’s safe, and it’s orderly, and it's usually directly connected with #work. 💡With so many countries experiencing labor #shortages, the #demand for migrants to fill those gaps is going to continue. 📌But as this report shows, regular migration pathways have #narrowed in recent years. 👎🏽Unfortunately, this means many people resort to irregular channels, putting their lives at risk and sometimes overwhelming border communities. The media presents a very narrow view of what migration actually is, and, create a skewed image, that does not recognize how prevalent migration is. Migration is a mechanism associated with all forms of life. When our needs are not being met in the place where we are, we move. This new report gives us a chance to examine the data, and to inform our opinions, communications, decisions, and recommendations, based on facts and not emotions; realities and not misperceptions. #WhoAreYou? As individuals, often forget that WE have migration in our family histories...sometimes that migration was through safe and regular routes, but other times, the generations before us took the chance, risked their lives, and went to the countries where we now live, via unsanctioned routes and methods. Let's make the regular pathways accessible, so people can move safely and freely to where their services are needed, and to where their needs can be met. 🤝🏽 Patrice Quesada Eraina Yaw Jan-Willem Wegdam Joeri Arion Natasha Greaves Renee Evelyn Vynliz Dailey Hélène Glénisson Oliver Profitt Antón Galán Brendan Tarnay United Nations Information Centre for the Caribbean Area IOM - UN Migration Guyana UN RCO Suriname Rco UN Trinidad and Tobago

What role does the local dialect play in advancing local action on food systems transformation and climate change? This question arises as I have realized the absence of single words to capture critical aspects like #FoodSystems and #ClimateChange. Communication about the changes we anticipate requires innovation and context specificity. Collaborative efforts and social learning become essential in addressing these challenges, respecting diverse cultures and embracing innovative local solutions. Do you have single words in your dialect that encapsulate #FoodSystems and #ClimateChange? Share your insights - they would be greatly valued! Climate change and #climatefinance were key agenda items at the 2024 IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings, which took place in April. One of the outcomes from this agenda was an $11 billion pledge to strengthen the World Bank's capacity for climate-related lending. This pledge is the latest part of the #WorldBank and #IMF efforts to integrate climate change into their lending policies and capacity development. Saudi Arabia's Finance Minister Mohammed Aljadaan assumed the role of Chair of the IMF's International Monetary and Financial Committee in early 2024. He has a different idea of the IMF's role in fighting #climatechange. Could this difference of opinion influence his tenure and the Fund's #climate policy? https://lnkd.in/dX3bAsdW

Great to be in Bonn as Observer for the @UNFCCC #SB60 sessions. Closely following discussions on Adaptation matters, including Finance and the New Quantified Goal on Climate Finance. @GCAdaptation continues to advocate for Climate Adaptation and Adaptation Finance through the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program #AAAP. Great to see that Parties insist that new financing must be provided in a way that does not exacerbate the debt burden of Developing Countries. #JuneClimateMeetings #COP29

Investing in human rights is the key to conflict prevention. This includes strengthening all pillars of an open society, from democracy and civic space to the rule of law and independent media. It also includes re-examining of how our economies work. We must shift to ensure they serve all people & the planet, not just a privileged few. My Office's concept of the Human Rights Economy does just that, anchoring all economic, fiscal, monetary, business and investment decisions in the full spectrum of rights, including the rights to food, health & education. This entails: -going beyond GDP to agree on broader measures that can illuminate trends in well-being and inequalities; -improved data collection & disaggregation to drive targeted action on discrimination; -budget-setting processes that are inclusive, participatory & transparent; & -prioritization of public services so they have a better chance of receiving the funding they need, fulfilling the commitment of States to apply maximum available resources to realize progressively economic & social rights. https://ow.ly/kkIQ50So5Vw

To counter the backlash against much-needed climate action, It is crucial to develop narratives that link the climate crisis with everyday life and broader social injustices. This new policy study published by Solidar and FEPS Europe establishes a compelling narrative for a just transition, identifying critical barriers to effective climate communication and analysing harmful narratives that hinder climate action. It recommends developing a justice-based narrative, emphasising the immediate impacts of the climate crisis on daily life and linking them to social injustices, thereby addressing socio-economic disparities, racism, and gender inequalities. This approach helps countering the perception that climate action is only beneficial in the long term.
