The Red Devils finished eighth in the table and Ten Hag had been expected to lose his job, but a memorable win over rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final prompted those in charge of the club to change their mind, and the Dutchman has since signed a new contract with the club.

Ten Hag will likely be desperate to bolster his squad ahead of next season, and it now appears that the Manchester outfit are set to battle it out with Spanish giants Real Madrid in the race to sign a La Liga star.

According to Diario AS via 90min, United have joined the race to sign Girona full-back Miguel Gutierrez.

The left-back joined Girona from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 and played a key role for the club last term as they finished third in the La Liga table.

European champions Real have the chance to re-sign Gutierrez for a fee of around £6.7 million, due to a clause in the deal that took him to Girona two years ago.

United, meanwhile, would be forced to meet the player’s release clause of just under £30 million if they are to sign him.

Last term, Gutierrez scored twice and registered nine assists in 40 appearances across all competitions.

Gutierrez is contracted to Girona until the end of the 2026/27 season, but he has attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs after an impressive season.

United could be on the hunt for a new left-back with both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia having struggled with frequent injury problems.
