A Federal High Court in Abuja has set September 18 to deliver its judgment on a suit seeking to remove Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The plaintiffs, a group of aggrieved party members from the North Central APC Forum, argue that Ganduje’s appointment as chairman is illegal and violates the party’s constitution.
They claim that the National Executive Committee (NEC) acted in breach of the party’s constitution by appointing Ganduje, from Kano State in the North West geo-political zone, to replace Senator Abdullahi Adamu from Nasarawa State in the North Central geo-political zone.
The plaintiffs seek a declaration that Ganduje’s occupation of the office is illegal and want the court to restrain him from further parading himself as chairman.
They also seek an order directing INEC not to recognize actions taken by the APC under Ganduje’s leadership.
The defendants, including Ganduje, the APC, and INEC, have prayed the court to dismiss the suit for lack of merit.
The court’s decision on September 18 will determine Ganduje’s fate as APC National Chairman.
