It's heartening to witness a growing number of nonprofits exploring the Social Stock Exchange (SSE) as a transformative means of raising capital. In a space where securing funding is a constant challenge for many NGOs, this move marks a significant step towards sustainability and impact. The potential of SSEs to revolutionise fundraising for NGOs cannot be overstated. By providing access to a broader investor base, SSEs offer a promising alternative to the traditional avenues of fundraising. Indeed, SSEs serve as a catalyst for change by diversifying funding sources, thereby reducing the reliance on unpredictable contributions. This financial stability enables NGOs to focus more on their core missions and less on financial uncertainties. Moreover, with access to capital markets facilitated by SSEs, NGOs can expand their operations and extend their reach to more beneficiaries. This scalability enhances their ability to create lasting social change on a larger scale. Yet, despite the immense potential SSEs hold, many NGOs remain hesitant to explore this avenue. Whether due to apprehensions about the unknown or a lack of understanding about SSE operations, overcoming these barriers is crucial to unlocking the full potential of this innovative funding mechanism. Growing up with #climatechange in rural #Rajasthan 🐪 Today, on #WorldEnvironmentDay, I find myself reflecting on the intricate and often overlooked connection between climate change and human health, particularly its impact on vulnerable communities. Growing up in a small village in Rajasthan, I experienced firsthand the harsh realities of climate change 🐪. Our village, surrounded by the golden desert sand, faced intense summers with temperatures soaring as high as 50 degree celsius 🌞, and water was a precious commodity. As a young girl, I would join other women and girls in fetching water from distant wells, balancing pots on our heads Yes, it's the same scene you might have watched in movies 🏜! During my teenage years, the arrival of community taps brought a semblance of relief 🚰 . However, in recent years, severe water shortages and increased severity of sand storms have brought back those struggles, reminding us of our vulnerability to climate change . The changing climate affects more than just the weather and air quality—it impacts our agricultural productivity, food security, and nutrition. In my childhood, our diet consisted mainly of black gram, bajra roti, kadhi, moong, and moth bean, with vegetables being a rare luxury. These crops were cultivated on our small landholdings, which depended entirely on the season's rainfall. A good rain meant food for the year; a poor season meant facing food scarcity. My entire family practices farming, and recent conversations with them have underscored their growing sense of helplessness and concern for the future. The climate crisis has intensified these challenges, making it increasingly difficult for families to access nutritious food. This reality hits the most vulnerable the hardest, particularly women and children, as they are often the least equipped to adapt to these changes. I believe that addressing climate change and environmental issues goes beyond planting trees or conserving water for one day. It involves restoring our land, building resilience against droughts, and ensuring that communities have sustainable access to essential resources like water and nutritious food. #Sustainability #ClimateJustice #LandRestoration #Desertification #DroughtResilience #Nutrition

Need more focus: India has made significant progress in Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicators but needs to address challenges in certain areas, according to the National Indicator Framework progress report 2024, launched on June 29. The report highlights significant gains made in maternal and child health, education, poverty, and climate change since 2015-16 However, in certain indicators, the situation has worsened. Gender wage gap for casual labourers has widened compared to 2017-18. In 2022-23 (July-September), the average wage gap between male and female casual labourers widened to Rs 178, compared with Rs 96 in 2017-18. We urgently need to redefine the Kayakalp assessment in the lens of Climate Change and Environment Sustainability in India. Addressing areas such as energy optimisation and efficiency, waste management, air pollution, drinking water, sanitation, water conservation, water quality management, knowledge , attitude and practices, institutional building and strengthening , and wastewater management, etc are crucial in this assessment. Here's a quick overview: - Climate change disproportionately affects marginalized communities, including transgender individuals, who already face limited resources and income. - Factors like social exclusion, lack of assets, and policies further exacerbate their vulnerability during climate disasters. - Transgender people living in poverty often grapple with illness, mental stress, and stigma, making them more susceptible to the impacts of climate shocks and stresses. This research sheds light on a crucial intersection that has not been extensively studied before. According to the WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP) for Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene, 42% of India's urban population and 7% of its rural population practice open defecation. In 2015, 41% of India's rural population defecated in the open, and in 2022, that number dropped to 17%. In 2015–16, 38.88% of households practiced open defecation, and by 2019–21, that number had dropped to 19.36%. However, the practice remains higher in central and eastern Indian states.

Why Does Local Context Matter in Understanding the Civil Servant-Population Ratio? 1. Public Sector Dependency: Bhutan's socio-economic development relies heavily on the public sector, making the nation dependent on the efficient functioning of public servants. 2. Role of Public Sectors: In Bhutan, public sectors act as primary implementers rather than facilitators, resulting in a heavy reliance on public servants. Consequently, the system tends to be more bureaucratic and regulatory. 3. Private Sector Engagement: The engagement of the private sector in economic and social development in Bhutan is significantly lower than regional and global standards. 4. Geographical Challenges: Bhutan is a mountainous country, with some settlements requiring days of travel to reach the nearest road, which makes population density a crucial factor in planning and implementation. 5. Partnership and Collaboration: Partnerships among public, private, civil society, and academic institutions are limited and require considerable attention. 6. Fiscal and Monetary Policies: Bhutan's fiscal and monetary policies are largely skewed towards a public sector-driven approach. 8. The digital infrastructure and literacy are limited. We have long way to go. Given these pressing reasons, it is essential to approach the civil servant-population ratio with caution, ensuring that the local context and unique challenges are adequately addressed.

Despite advancements and increasing urbanisation making menstrual hygiene products more accessible to many young women, affordability remains a significant issue. Many women in semi-urban and rural areas still face barriers to accessing these products. The latest National Family Health Survey-5 (NFHS) provides clear evidence: 73% of rural women and 90% of urban women use a hygienic method of menstrual protection. The percentage of women aged 15-24 using a hygienic method during their menstrual cycle has risen significantly, from 58% in NFHS-4 to 78% in NFHS-5, primarily using sanitary napkins, cloth, and locally prepared napkins. Addressing menstrual hygiene requires collective efforts from both men and women to break the silence, foster a healthier future, and ensure every woman and girl can manage their menstrual health with dignity. Men's active participation in improving menstrual hygiene standards is crucial for promoting gender equality and equitable healthcare access.
