Reimagining the Kitchen Recipe App Experience! This case study explores the challenges of using recipe apps on smartphones in the kitchen environment and proposes a user-centered design solution to improve the cooking experience. The Problem Following recipes on a phone screen in the kitchen is often messy and frustrating. Constant scrolling, accidental taps due to wet or flour-covered hands, and unclear instructions hinder enjoyment and efficiency. This discourages users from utilizing recipe apps and potentially stifles their culinary exploration. Research & User Understanding User Interviews: Conducted interviews with people who cook frequently with recipe apps will provide insights into their pain points. Here are some questions to consider: What are the biggest challenges you face when using recipe apps in the kitchen? How does the current design of recipe apps impact your cooking experience? What features would make using recipe apps in the kitchen easier and more enjoyable? Persona Development We created a user persona representing the target audience based on the research. Many designers don't know this. They learn about the fonts from their seniors and use multiples of 4px in design systems. Similarly, I found out when I was working with Suraj Pandit on a freelance website project. 16 pixels equals 1 rem. When you divide 16px by 4, you get 4px, which is 0.25 rem. This makes it easier for developers to work with. Using numbers like 0.366 rem or other random middle numbers can be confusing and make it harder to create a responsive design. There are many benefits of using rem in development. Using `rem` units in CSS enhances web design by ensuring scalability, consistency, and accessibility. They scale with the root font size, simplifying responsive design and maintenance. `rem` units respect user settings, improving readability, and support fluid layouts and straightforward media queries. Overall, they promote a flexible, scalable, and accessible approach to web design.

Wish I had known this before getting into UX! 🤔 Spending the last 20 years in the Design Industry has taught me a lot. But that doesn't stop me from rethinking my journey and what I would have done differently in my journey. Some of the postulates of UX Design as I've Learnt are: 1. User-Centric Designing: The Primary motivation of any UX Design is to make it easier to understand by any user from any part of the world. Bringing the user at the forefront ensures that every decision—from layout to functionality—serves their needs and goals. 2. Accessibility: Designing with accessibility in mind ensures that all users, including those with disabilities, can access and use the product effectively. 3. Responsiveness: With users accessing your product on various devices and screen sizes, responsiveness is crucial. Responsive design ensures that the interface adapts and functions well despite the device used. 4. Emotional Design: Recognizing that design can evoke emotions, UX designers can intentionally use colors, visuals, and interactions to create positive emotional responses that enhance user satisfaction. 5. Readability: Your text needs to be readable. So this means, not too small, but also not too large, and make sure that there is appropriate spacing between lines (Although you should use larger text to present headings, using a different font, color or emboldening the letters can help to separate a heading from the rest of your content) 6. Don't be too Trendy: You have to be reasonable about implementing changes according to the latest trends.Just integrating a trend into a design without it actually making any sense is a bad alternative to an exciting new feature that could've made it instead. 7. Simplicity: It Is important to retain the core of your design and not change too much in a single instance. Often, I come across models like Instagram, Discord and Twitter who change their entire UXs in a major manner which ends up doing more harm than good. One should remember that people like familiarity. 8. Testing : Running usability tests before and after releasing your product is always a good idea. This should happen in the Prototyping phase of UX Design where end-users interact with your product to find inconsistencies. 9 .Feedback: Taking feedback from your user-base not only keeps you in touch with them but also  opens you up to new perspectives and ideas, which might have been hidden in hindsight. 10. Loading Times: Optimizing loading times is a cool addition one can do to make the user experience unique and fun. Slow loading speeds can frustrate users and having a fun animation or a cool design that takes that space up can not only retain but also elevate interest.
