Empowering 40,000 artisans, weaving love, and connecting rural India to the world, one exquisite handmade rug at a time.

About us

Jaipur Rugs is a family business built on the fundamental principal of conserving ancestral know-how and connecting rural craftsmanship with global consumers, in a manner that spreads kindness and benefits all our stakeholders. It uses the age-old art of handmade carpets as a tool to bring prosperity to 40,000 rural artisans of which 80% are women. Founded in 1978 by Nand Kishore Chaudhary with two looms, it now has over 7000 looms and sells in over 60 countries. Today the company creates contemporary works of art by collaborating with creative talents capable of showcasing this ancestral craft with a new vision. Our business combines the pursuit of profit with the spreading of kindness in a way that benefits all of our stakeholders: our consumers and their families, the artisans and their families, our employees, our suppliers, the buyers and channels we work with. Founder Nand Kishore Chaudhary inculcated in us a bedrock of values that combines kindness as our default demeanor, compassion for those around us, and the humility that everyone deserves dignity. This means that Jaipur Rugs will work with all those that stand for these values and it drives us as an organization to work with and tap into the creative capacity of those in society that are disadvantaged or rejected. With their help, we create the most distinct design of the highest quality, and are also able to capture the blessings of the disadvantaged such as the artisans and their families. This blessing derives from their passion and devoted labour as they receive the opportunity to grow their fortunes, self-worth and pride-and which then transform into our products. As a result, a Jaipur Rugs customer will receive the most beautiful, highest quality design together with the blessing of an artisan’s family. With this competitive advantage, we aspire to become the leader in our trade and serve as the catalyst for how our industry creates both economic and humanitarian benefit for all stakeholders.

"Match Point...But This Game is More Than Aces!" were the words of our founder, Nand Kishore Chaudhary (NKC), while reflecting on The Court of Carpets. He witnessed firsthand the unwavering passion of our artisans as they traded threads for volleys. "As I called 'Match Point,' a moment of silence held the court," he added. "Then, the rally continued!" This wasn't just a tennis match; it was "The Court of Carpets," and emotions were running high—on the court and in the stands. We at Jaipur Rugs have always been about the magic woven by our artisans. Their talent isn't confined to looms; it's a fire that burns bright in their hearts. As Payal Kumari, one of the artisans turned tennis stars, aptly put it, "The same precision we bring to weaving, we brought to the court. It was a different kind of artistry!" Their journey from weavers to warriors is genuinely inspiring. This campaign wasn't born overnight. It was a labor of love by our in-house team. They dreamt it, they designed it – the hand-crafted props, the layered antique rugs, every detail a tribute to our heritage. "It wasn't just a court; it was a living, breathing story," our creative lead remarked. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to all of you for the incredible support and love you've shown for the "Court of Carpets" campaign. Your appreciation fuels our drive to keep innovating and empowering. And to Rohan Bopanna, a true champion both on and off the court – a heartfelt thank you from the entire Jaipur Rugs Family for joining us on this journey.  #tennis #wimbeldon #rohanbopanna #Jaipurrugs #Courtofcarpets

#JaipurJourney Echoes of Early Vision: Leaders' Untold Stories What Defines Business Beyond Profit?  As a young student pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce in Churu, Nand Kishore Chaudhary (NKC) was called upon by a strict professor. Nervously, he stood up, worried he had made a mistake on his test. The professor, holding NKC's paper, read out, "What is the definition of business?" He had written, "Business is next to love. It is the creator and preserver of civilization." The professor then turned to the class and said, "This young boy will become a different businessman one day!" And different he became. Fueled by passion and a profound belief in the power of Business to create positive change, Nand Kishore Chaudhary laid the foundation for what we know today as Jaipur Rugs. #Jaipurrugs #NKC #Jaipur #business #Jaipurrugsfoundation

In celebration of our Founder’s Day, Jaipur Rugs is delighted to reveal a series of specially commissioned portraits of Nand Kishore Chaudhary (NKC) photographed by @raghurai . Capturing NKC’s kindness and simplicity, for which he is well known, the legendary photographer pays tribute to a true gentleman, known as much for his work with artisans across India as he is for the powerhouse craft company he founded in 1978. Pictured in the scenography behind him are two Manchaha rugs from NKC’s deeply personal project that gives our weavers the freedom to create as they wish, rather than from a prescribed design. Also pictured a rug from the private collection of the Chaudhary family. This special project brought together two legends of craft, who immediately connected with their shared pursuit of excellence and creativity. Jaipur Rugs would like to thank Raghu Rai for these rare photographs. And we wish NKC a very happy birthday! #raghurai #nkc #jaipurrugs #raghuraiphotography #foundersday

For the first time in four decades, our artisans met salespeople. I believe if you are not connected with the stories or values, how will you transfer that to your customers? To make the other person feel the warmth, you need to first feel them. That’s what we initiated - A meeting to know each other better. Artisans and the persons representing their stories to the world. That’s when Shanti, accompanied by Geeta, Aachi, Sushila, and Poonam from Manpura village, visited our head office and shared their transformation. Their journey not only inspired our retail team to add depth to their stories but also convinced them to visit villages more often. That’s what we want to create for consumers - an experience that no one has ever given, an experience filled with love, an experience that solves their problems. The peace and belonging that a person feels in a temple is what we want to create in our stores. We should make them feel that they are listened to, and that’s how we will build relationships with them. I realized my dream with this meeting, focusing on how love can transform our bond with consumers. “Sell love and exchange love.” Jaipur Rugs Rutvi Chaudhary Yogesh Chaudhary #ArtisanStories #CustomerConnection #EmpoweringCommunities #BuildingRelationships #LoveInBusiness #CustomerExperience #ConnectingThroughStories #EmpathyInRetail #JaipurRugs #LinkedIn

I am incredibly proud to share that my son Yogesh Chaudhary, has been recognized as one of the Fortune India 40 under 40- Brightest Young Leaders Who Changed the Course of Businesses in India. The recognition is evidence of his passion, dedication, and leadership. I still remember how he joined Jaipur Rugs midway through his education when a robbery made our business difficult to run. Since that day, Yogesh has remained by my side, exploring every avenue of the business to make it better. Along with him, many young entrepreneurs joined the list, Akash Ambani, Ananya Birla, Isha Ambani, Jay Kotak, Karan Adani, Nikhil Kamath, and Shashwat Goenka, who are redefining the business with their fresh perspectives. Reading his article in the magazine, I thought of my 45-year-old vision to connect grassroots artisans with the global end consumer. Reflecting on Yogesh’s journey, I found how he has turned my vision into reality with his technical & retail expertise and connected our grassroots to the end consumer through international retail stores. He changed the outlook of the retail industry, making my vision a reality today. It fills me with pride that all my children have joined the business and have taken it to new heights. I feel grateful for their passion and hard work.
