Meet Prashant Khanna, who works in sports production at Disney Star. His role blends field operations, sports production, design, studio management, and R&D through STAR Labs. Prashant's career at Disney Star spans two significant periods. He first joined from 2002 to 2007, starting as a contractual employee fetching and delivering fan mail for shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. It might sound surprising, but Prashant eagerly awaited each new episode, as it made crafting the perfect fan responses easier. Upon his return in 2017, Prashant found himself in a larger organization. Despite the changes, the core values of innovation and pushing boundaries remained. In 2020, Prashant and his team tackled the monumental task of bringing IPL back on air amid COVID-19. With global sports halted, they committed fully and passionately. Prashant was instrumental in creating COVID guidelines and biosecure bubbles, ensuring safety in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Mumbai. Seeing the first ball go on-air and hearing the fans' messages about IPL lifting their spirits was hugely gratifying. For Prashant, balancing life and work is crucial. His team produces everything in-house, which means long hours and sometimes weekends at the office. But his family understands his passion. Evening games allow Prashant to spend mornings with his son, and no games mean a possible day off. He manages his schedule like his own domain, finding structure in chaos. Reflecting on his journey, Prashant emphasizes the importance of keeping your eyes and ears open and working hard. Dedication and sincerity bring good things your way. He also finds the organization's support for maternity and paternity leave phenomenal. With a 100-year history, he believes the organization offers invaluable learning experiences. #LifeAtDisneyStar

This #PrideMonth, we explore identity and #allyship, highlighting real-world changes through #WordsOfPride. This story is about Shaileyi and Lauren, a couple who powered their way through the complexities of communication and acceptance within their families. Learn the language of #inclusivity at www.wordsofpride.com #HappyPrideMonth #LGBTQIA #LoveIsLove Shaileyi (she/her) (Writer, Editor - Communications & Marketing) Lauren (they/them) (Drama educator, Actor, Performer) “The rules of language dictate that you have to define yourself to be able to converse with someone,” Shaileyi begins. Shaileyi (she/her) works as a writer and editor. At 18, Shaileyi grappled with articulating queerness in Bengali. Even though her grandmother hinted that she could confide in her about any ‘special friends,’ Shaileyi felt tongue-tied. “Without the right words, I couldn't have had that conversation." A pivotal moment of allyship came from her partner Lauren, who is genderfluid and uses they/them pronouns. “For my mother, it was just a phase, something she would rather deny — that I'm not straight.” Battling her fears, Shaileyi has created a safe space within her family. “I’ve come out to my mother bit by bit, and this wouldn’t be possible without Lauren’s support.” Lauren uses the phrase ‘both and more’ to describe their gender, a perspective Shaileyi finds enlightening. She often switches to English to explain, and her mother is slowly learning. Lauren, a drama educator, actor and drag king, challenges societal norms by advocating for LGBTQIA++ visibility through their art. “I’ve struggled to find words that fit me throughout my life. It’s because of the fluid nature of my sexuality and the limitations of language,” Lauren explains. Words like ‘androgynous’ offer some comfort, but the binary structure persists. “I’m still looking for words that don’t define me by what I am not,” Lauren says. Reflecting on initiatives like ‘Words of Pride,’ Lauren is excited about the unbiased representation of the queer community. “We've learned that there are different shades of queerness and I think that itself is beautiful, that we are all living normal, happy lives,” Shaileyi emphasises the importance of community. “It’s vital to know we’re not alone,” she says. “You can’t overstate how significant a sense of belonging can be, especially to a queer person.” Written by: @picturedekhe Photographer & Grade: @rushabose

This #PrideMonth, we will delve into the stories of identity and allyship, highlighting the real-world changes ignited by the language with #WordsOfPride. This is the story of Karthik who reflects on expressing gender and sexuality in multiple languages Know more about the language of allyship and inclusivity at www.wordsofpride.com #HappyPrideMonth #LGBTQIA #LoveIsLove #Allyship Karthik Damarsetti (they/them) Senior Consultant with a software company. "When I told my mom that I’m gay, she understood what it meant,” Karthik shared. “But I couldn’t explain my non-binary identity to anyone in my native tongue.” Living with spastic diplegia in a multicultural household fluent in Tamil, Kannada, and Telugu, Karthik finds traditional gender politics exclusionary. They still couldn't find the words to capture their queerness. The lack of vocabulary became even more apparent during the 2018 judgement decriminalising Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code. "Watching the news with my family, I realised I couldn't explain the different identities within the LGBTQIA+ community. The words just didn't exist in our everyday language." Tamil words for transgender people like Thirunar or Thirunangai are common, but Karthik notes, “If I were to shift to another language, that’s when it would all fall apart.” In Telugu, the challenge is even greater. The word ‘queer' in Tamil and Telugu hasn't been defined, often borrowed from English, making it hard to explain to their family what it even entails. Karthik's self-awareness deepened during their master's studies in the US, but language struggles continued at home. The lack of representation in regional media reinforced harmful stereotypes and hindered meaningful discourse. In their 30s now, Karthik works in Hyderabad as a senior developer with a leading software consultancy firm. “We need more gender-neutral words in our languages, so people can use them without fear of being outed. It’s about reclaiming our identities without borrowing from non-Indian terms.” Initiatives like Words of Pride highlight the importance of community-driven language. “Only we know what to call ourselves. Words are powerful, and we need to build the language we need as a community.” Written by: Virender Singh Photographer: Rishitha Devi
