Woohoo! AIF is on a roll! Celebrating its third award in as many weeks, AIF Livelihoods bags the 'Best COVID-19 Initiative of the Year' for Project Entre-Prerana, at the prestigious Global CSR & ESG Awards 2024. The awards, dedicated to the impact analysis of CSR, sustainability, and ESG mandates on the corporate and society, identify and recognize the organizations devoted to social welfare while upholding incontestable business ethics, and we are proud to say that out of hundreds of worthy entries, AIF’s Entre-Prerana emerged a clear winner. Since 2020, the project has revolutionized the street vending community, impacting over 700,000 vendors, including 227,017 women across 56 cities in 17 states of India. Designed at the intersection of digital, financial, and market linkages, Project Entre-Prerana supports nano-entrepreneurs and street vendors disrupted by the pandemic. It helps formalize their businesses through registration, provides access to low-cost working capital, assists in transitioning to digital payments, and facilitates new market linkages through e-commerce platforms. This comprehensive approach aims to revive the livelihoods of 1 million street vendors, fostering growth and resilience. In our mission to revolutionize #MaternalHealthcare in India, the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) and #AIF have joined hands to address perinatal #MentalHealth challenges in the #Haridwar district of #Uttarakhand. Perinatal mental health has long been a silent struggle, hidden behind disquieting statistics. But within these numbers lie the essence of real lives, hardships, and narratives. This #partnership, with AIF’s Maternal And Newborn Survival Initiative (MANSI), will establish a sustainable community-based model that prioritizes maternal and child wellbeing during the perinatal journey. Through this pilot project, frontline workers will receive training and support to screen #pregnant and #nursing women for mental health conditions and offer #counseling services remotely or in-person to those in need, benefiting an estimated 2,500 women in the region. What began as a pilot in 1 block covering 167 villages of #Jharkhand, #MANSI now has an expansive reach across 9 states in India, impacting the lives of over 8 million people in remote and hard-to-reach geographies. Over the past 15 years, MANSI has evolved from focusing on maternal and neonatal mortality to addressing ecosystem strengthening, malnutrition, anemia, and reproductive, mental, and adolescent healthcare. The multitude of partnerships cultivated at #AIF has played a pivotal role in facilitating our endeavors, consistently extending our outreach. In India, where many girls face educational barriers, Shalini's success through STEM is a story of brazen resolve and empowerment. Shalini, a 13-year-old from Porur, a neighboring town of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, carries the dreams of her hardworking parents, who sustain by welding and juggling other odd jobs. Financial constraints led her to transition from a private to a government school. As devastated as Shalini was at losing her friends and her school – her home away from home, it also meant her serendipitous encounter with AIF’s #DigitalEqualizer program and #STEM Innovation and Learning Center (SILC) at her new school. She dove into science and automation with boundless enthusiasm. Excelling at STEM she soon became a mentor to her classmates, boosting their confidence along the way. Then came the defining moment at the National Knowledge event - #DigiQuity, where Shalini wowed the crowd with the 3D-printed miniature model of her SILC lab, earning applause and accolades from esteemed scientists from ISRO - Indian Space Research Organization. Her once-trembling voice now rings with clarity and her trepidation has turned to tenacity, as she chases her dream to become an IAS Officer. Let’s give bold futures to girls like Shalini. Meet Arbeena Jan! She’s part of our incredible 2023-2024 Banyan Impact Fellowship (BIF) squad, currently making waves at Aim for the Awareness of Society (AAS) in Indore, #MadhyaPradesh. Arbeena is spearheading a vital initiative to empower adolescent girls in her community. Crafting and implementing educative modules covering leadership, communication, sexual and reproductive health, and future career pathways, all aimed at preventing early and child marriage within the community. Leading every aspect of the project, from surveys, and assessments to mentorship, Arbeena is creating a nurturing environment for 25 young girls, arming them with the tools to pursue their aspirations beyond the traditional roles. But Arbeena's impact doesn't stop here! She's shaping her host organization's vision, crafting a compelling Theory of Change, and developing a powerful fundraising strategy. Imagine mental health education changing the life of a young boy burdened by societal stigma and academic pressure. Meet Shubham from Khunta, Mayurbhanj, Odisha, who experienced this transformation firsthand. Shubham faced financial constraints and #socialdiscrimination, which compounded his academic pressures and peer issues, leading to severe anxiety and violent outbursts that further isolated him and strained his connections with others. That’s where #SNEH (Skilling, Nutrition, Education, Health) came in—a lifeline that reshaped Shubham's approach to stress and relationships. He learned to manage his emotions through targeted sessions, regular meditation, and engaging activities, transforming from confrontational to composed. This journey fostered introspection and empathy, greatly enhancing his interactions with peers and teachers. The change has been remarkable. Shubham now resolves conflicts peacefully and passionately promotes mental health education among his peers, highlighting its importance for young minds.
