Last week Bria was ranked #20 of the most promising startups in Israel, kudos to the team! It is a long journey to build a startup. At 8 years old, I fell in love with mathematics, and at that point, I knew that's what I'd get my PhD in. That passion not only shaped my academic path but also ignited my interest in visual technologies and AI, which led me to pursue a PhD in computer vision. During my studies, I began to realise just how much the future of content would change with AI coming into the mix. Fast-forward to 2020, during COVID and before the Gen AI hype, I combined my understanding of how visuals can be generated with AI and the valuable enterprise experience I gained in my previous role at Trax Retail, to co-establish an AI startup called BRIA. We had one simple goal: To make it easy for any individual and company to generate the exact visuals needed for any use. Our key objective in helping you achieve this is to ensure that we provide you with a transparent, open, and responsible AI platform trained solely on licensed data, no public figures and deep fake, no privacy infringement. And in a world where more than 43% of people don't trust companies to use AI morally, Responsible AI use has never been more important. In building BRIA, we've been able to help businesses all over the world scale their content development process. And what gets me even more excited is that we've been able to partner with different creators to ensure that their creativity is respected, rewarded, and isn't pirated. We trained our own high quality foundation models and built the core tools of Generative AI so everyone can use it. The journey so far has been anything but linear, and I'm eager to continue sharing the innovative features we're developing, discuss the critical importance of Responsible AI, and explore how you can leverage our platform to its fullest potential. 2023 was a tough year for Israeli startups. After a few slow quarters, the Israeli startup ecosystem is starting to show signs of recovery and stability. According to the latest tech review for Q1 2024 (by LeumiTech and IVC Data and Insights): - Israeli startups raised $1.74 billion in Q1 2024, just 1% below Q1 2023 - Q1 2024 had more seed rounds than each of the 3 previous quarters in 2023 - Cyber dominated in M&A and large rounds Link to the my post (and the report) in the first comment 👇

Israel’s AI hopes high, but investment and talent shortages persist. In 2023, half of the investments in startups, both in terms of capital and the number of rounds, were in AI companies, with investments in generative AI startups jumping by 85% between 2020 and 2023. However, this seemingly positive trend is overshadowed when compared globally. Between 2020 and 2023, the volume of investments in AI in the U.S. increased tenfold, and in Europe, it quadrupled. RISE Israel (formerly SNPI)

According to a new report co-produced by Google Israel and RISE Israel (formerly SNPI), there are more than 2,300 AI startups active in Israel today. That number accounts for roughly one quarter of all the technology companies in the country. It is well known that Israel has the highest number of startups per capita in the world, but we must continue to capitalize on the AI moment if we want to hold onto the technology crown. In fact, the report notes that AI startups in Israel are not launching at the pace of previous startup eras. At our Google Cloud Summit Tel Aviv last week, we saw a lot of excitement and innovation around AI. With that in mind, I authored a Google Cloud blog highlighting 5 of Google Cloud Israel’s top AI customers here in Israel that show that Israel is still a leader in new tech. These companies are leading in almost every sector of AI, including healthtech, security, databases, and content creation. Wiz, founded by Assaf Rappaport, Ami Luttwak, Yinon C. and Roy R., recently launched support for Google Cloud Vertex AI. Now, Wiz customers can build, train, and deploy ML models at scale while ensuring they are effectively monitoring and managing the security risks associated with managing AI/ML models. "AR computing!" Say goodbye to traditional laptops. An Israeli entrepreneur has innovated a technology that bids farewell to our traditional laptops. Tamir Berliner- founder of Sightful and the innovator behind the Spacetop G1! What is the Spacetop G1? Spatial computer that seamlessly integrates the functionality of a laptop with the capabilities Of Augmented Reality (AR). A 100-inch virtual workspace replaces the need for a physical screen. Spacetop G1 adapts to various environments, whether at home, in the office, or on the go. This represents a step forward in integrating AR technologies with daily tasks. Spatial with AR transforms how we interact with digital content, personally and professionally. The real test will be in its execution. The usability of the AR interface, the battery life, the comfort of AR glasses, etc., are crucial. I believe Sightful has managed to address these practical concerns effectively. Analysis: Key technical leader departs OpenAI Ilya Sutskever, really is the brains behind the whole operation. Chief Scientist, board member and co-founder.. This happened two days after, the hype announcement of GPT-4o. With both Andrej Karpathy & Ilya Sutskever leaving within the last few months, this leaves a rather large technical gap in the leadership team of the Research Lab. The GPT-4o announcement happening 1 day before 'Google I/O 2024', largely overshadowing the event. Personally I think this is good for Microsoft, its stock is up 8% this month, to put that in perspective - 250 billion USD, or 5 and half Twitters!! Previously OpenAI actively attempted to remove all emotions from their AI, recent audio demos of the new speech model seems to be going in the other direction using science fiction as a product roadmap. The curious change is rather sudden and may be explained by Mustafa Suleyman recently becoming the CEO of Microsoft AI Mustafa Suleyman previously CEO of Inflection AI was creating an emotionally aware chatbot called 'Pi'. 1 day ago 'John Schulman' one of the remaining technical co-founders of OpenAI, was the guest of a well known AI podcast, this appearance seems genuine and not a PR effort - https://lnkd.in/gEcrvmvU Big changes in the AI world, remember OpenAI is a Research Lab first and foremost - with many of the founding researchers departing within a few months, sending an interesting market signal. ➡️ The Israeli 76th Independence Day, celebrated today, is an opportunity to take another look at the Israeli #tech ecosystem and what makes it so unique. The key is five main ingredients that make it so successful and resilient: 1. Entrepreneurs 2. Investors 3. Engineers 4. Experience 5. The military service This year, we need this ecosystem to be stronger than ever. For the last three decades or so, Israel has cultivated generations of entrepreneurs based on these foundations, educating them to never give up, not to be afraid of #failure, providing tax and other incentives, building special funds to support tech #startups, and more. Over this past year, we’ve learned anew the strength that we have as a nation. And if you’ve read recent headlines regarding funding rounds and exits of Israeli startups, you will see a clear demonstration of resilience in action. According to a recent report by Startup Nation Central, the Israel tech ecosystem has recently completed: - 220 private investment rounds - An estimated $3.1 billion raised - $3.7 billion in M&A transactions - 20 new venture capital funds were established, raising $1.7 billion And it’s not just internal optimism. A recent poll conducted by the global accounting company Ernst & Young showed that about 60% of multinational companies expressed confidence in the Israeli tech industry. Some might say that what happens in Israel is simply miraculous. I say that it’s because of the resilience, grit, determination, creativity, innovation and perseverance of our people. The Israel Innovation Authority רשות החדשנות just released a report that finds that the Israeli high-tech industry, which accounts for 40% of the economy's expansion since 2018, continues to drive growth in output and exports, but some concerning trends have emerged: ✔ High-tech employment growth slowed to 2.6% in 2023, barely outpacing population growth. ✔ Startup fundraising plummeted by 55% in 2023, a sharper decline than observed in the US and European hubs. ✔ Over a third of startups currently engaged in fundraising expect to raise capital at significantly lower valuations, indicative of the industry's unease following the events of October 7th. ✔ Israeli high-tech's success heavily relies on global factors like investors, multinationals, clients, research collaborations, and supply chains. ✔ Human capital is Israel's "natural resource," necessitating state policies that nurture quality education and foster an attractive investment climate. However, current state investment lags behind global innovation hubs like the US, UK, and South Korea. The report concludes that as the high-tech industry stands at a crossroads, prioritizing policies that prevent its contraction becomes crucial for safeguarding the entire economy's growth trajectory. We really thing, that using multiple solutions (sometimes over 30) only make your clinic way less efficient. This post is dedicated to my non-Israeli friends. But everyone’s welcome to read it :)   I’m sitting down to write this post about 10 minutes before the Israeli Memorial Day transitions to our Independence Day. Every year this is a nearly unbearable transition, from deep sadness to pride and joy. We are taught, from a very young age (as early as 6 years old, as I learned this year through my son), that these two dates were set intentionally, so that us Israelis will always remember that our independence came, and keeps coming, at great cost. This year, I feel it’s even worse than unbearable. It’s simply impossible. I find myself uncapable of celebrating Independence Day. As a nation and a country, we’re still at war. As an individual (and far from being the only one feeling like this), I’m still mourning. I truly believe we should still find ways to be happy and participate in or even initiate whatever activities that serve that purpose. But highlighting the achievement of becoming an independent country, of forming a safe country for Jewish people.. Right now it just doesn’t feel like the right time to do that.     And here’s why I’m writing to you, non-Israelis. I want to tell you more about what I’m mourning. I hope this will help those of you who see Israel at a mostly negative light, better understand the complexity of our reality.   Personally, I fully acknowledge Israel shares the responsibility over the truly shitty life of the people of Gaza. Along with that, I’m mourning what Israelis must live through right now: The tragic loss of so many loved ones, so many of them in terrible ways that I don’t think I’ll ever dare expose myself to. The need to leave their homes, and uproot their families, their whole lives. The fear that we’ll never feel safe again, not in Israel, and not anywhere else. The feeling I often struggle with, that I might never fully recover from my personal Oct 7 experience. That I will never be my best self again because of it – not the best mother I want to be, not the best partner, not the best friend, not the best employee.   So back to the complexity – you see, almost all Israelis are like me. People who just want to feel safe, just want to provide their kids with everything they need, just want to be able to celebrate without thinking about all that is wrong in the world.   I’m proud to be Israeli, although I’ve never felt more challenged to say it out loud.
