The Palestinian Digital Rights Coalition and allies strongly condemn Microsoft's recent treatment of Palestinian customers. The company’s recent actions of blocking Palestinian users’ email and Skype accounts, an unjust disruption that has severe consequences on their daily lives during a time of war, is not only an affront to basic human decency but also a violation of their fundamental rights. Access to technology and communication is crucial, especially in conflict zones where information and connectivity can mean the difference between life and death. Furthermore, Microsoft accounts provide access to communication platforms, bank accounts, and job opportunities. By blocking its services, Microsoft is effectively cutting Palestinians off from social, professional, and financial opportunities during a time of immense suffering and devastation. Microsoft's decision to restrict its services to Palestinians at such a critical juncture is deeply troubling and cannot be justified. 📌 Read full statement: https://lnkd.in/ezd8-wCG

يدين الائتلاف الفلسطيني للحقوق الرقمية وعدد من الحلفاء بشدّة طريقة معاملة مايكروسوفت الأخيرة لمستخدمين/ات فلسطينيين/ات، إن إجراءات الشركة الأخيرة في حظر حسابات بريد إلكتروني وسكايب (Skype) لمستخدمين/ات فلسطينيين/ات، والتي تعتبر إجراءات تمييزية غير عادلة، لها آثار خطيرة على حياتهم/ن اليومية لا سيّما في وقت الحرب، وهي ليست فقط إهانة للكرامة الإنسانية، بل أيضًا انتهاكًا لحقوقهم/ن الأساسية. يُعدّ الوصول إلى التكنولوجيا والاتصالات أمرًا ضروريًا، خاصة في مناطق النزاع حيث تلعب المعلومات والاتصالات دوراً أساسياً بين الحياة والموت. إنّ حسابات مايكروسوفت توفر الوصول إلى منصات الاتصال والحسابات المصرفية وفرص العمل، ومن خلال حظر خدماتها، تقطع الشركة فعليًا الفلسطينيين/ات عن الفرص الاجتماعية والمهنية والمالية في وقت يعانون فيه من معاناة شديدة ودمار واسع. ويبعث قرار مايكروسوفت بتقييد خدماتها للفلسطينيين/ات في مثل هذا الوقت الحرج على القلق العميق ولا يمكن تبريره. 📍لقراءة البيان كاملاً، زوروا الرابط: https://lnkd.in/ekcPdyHJ

📌 7amleh launched the "Arabic Violence Indicator", a linguistic model that uses artificial intelligence technology to automatically and immediately monitor the spread of hate speech and violence on social media platforms in Arabic Language. The findings are then presented on "7or - the Palestinian Digital Rights Violations Observatory'', this is a significant step to fight violent content and protect users from online threats. 7amleh, Jewish Voice for Peace, and our undersigned partners are disappointed by Meta's recent policy update, announced on July 9, 2024, due to the strong likelihood that it will lead to further conflation of the political ideology of "Zionism" with Jewish and/or Israeli identities under Meta’s Hate Speech Policy. Having a safe space for all people on Meta and other social media platforms should be their top priority and responsibility. This includes the removal of harmful dehumanizing, or violent content directed at any community. Unfortunately, Meta and Facebook have not adequately protected Palestinians from hate speech in the last decade, which has manifested in millions of conversations inciting violence and genocidal rhetoric during the last nine months of the Israeli war on Gaza. 🔗 To read the full statement: https://cutt.ly/0egZfPRN

The 8th edition of the Palestine Digital Activism Forum, themed "Artificial Intelligence (AI): Revolutionary Promises & Discriminatory Realities," has concluded with remarkable success.
