The transformation of a generic office building into an inspiring new workplace by architects de Architecten Cie. and contractor G&S Bouw is a testament to modern office design. The highlight is a stunning glass dome, standing 12 meters high and 77 meters wide, covering a former courtyard to create a central meeting area bathed in daylight. This dome features 728 individual windows, each measuring 3.5 meters by 2.8 meters and weighing 350 kilograms. Using Kingspan's BA-4S structural rod system and Lumera windows, the dome supports natural ventilation, blending aesthetics with functionality for a healthier indoor environment. The Garden Museum extension at the deconsecrated church of St Mary-at-Lambeth, London, sits atop a significant architectural site, necessitating a reinforced concrete raft to protect the site and tree roots. Dow Jones Architects, with roofing contractor Rooff, led the project, adopting a passive-led energy strategy aligned with the Church of England’s 2050 sustainability plan, surpassing the London Plan requirements. A 40% improvement on standard carbon emission targets within Part L was needed for this listed building extension. Kingspan’s super thin OPTIM-R® Roofing System vacuum insulation panels were crucial, providing a minimal 50mm system thickness that kept roof thickness and weight low without sacrificing thermal performance. Taking a deep dive into ocean microplastics 🌊 Earlier this month, we were delighted to attend a #WorldOceanDay event hosted by our partner Seabin™ at the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney.
