Supporting people who are homeless or at risk in Dublin, Wicklow, Kildare, Meath, Cavan, Monaghan & Louth.

About us

Dublin Simon Community works to prevent and address homelessness in Dublin, Kildare, Wicklow, Meath, Cavan, Monaghan & Louth. We provide services at all stages of homelessness and enable people to move to a place they can call home. At Simon, we listen to people who turn to us for help and do everything we can to support them to move out of homelessness into independent living. We strive to empower people to access, secure and retain a home of their own by reducing the reliance on short-term emergency accommodation and providing permanent supported housing for people to sustain a home in their local community. Moving people into supported housing produces life-enhancing and life-saving results and is more cost-effective in the long run. The organisation was founded by a group of Trinity and UCD students in 1969, who began by providing much-needed soup and sandwiches to people who were sleeping rough in Dublin city centre. In addition to the Soup Run, which still goes out 365 nights of the year, Dublin Simon provide many services which aim to help those who are sleeping rough on the streets, people who are in their own accommodation but at risk of homelessness and those who are at any of the stages in between. (Charity number CHY 5963).

As we celebrate #WorldYouthSkillsDay, we want to recognise our youth stars – our youth volunteers 🌟. This day highlights the importance of equipping young people with the skills they require for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship. At Dublin Simon Community, our youth volunteers gain vital skills and knowledge that will last a lifetime – through various training sessions, group projects, hikes, social activities, on-service engagements, and certificate courses. These activities equip and empower them to take on new challenges and make a real difference in their communities. Their contribution also positively impacts our clients’ lives, while learning how to steer complex social issues, manage clients effectively, build trust, and communicate across cultural boundaries. By volunteering with us, our youth volunteers not only contribute to a worthy cause but also prepare themselves for a brighter future. Join us in recognising and celebrating the amazing potential of our youth volunteers! #DublinSimon #WorldYouthSkillsDay #YouthEmpowerment #SkillsForFuture #VolunteerWithUs #MakingADifference #VolunteerRecognition #VolunteerAppreciation

Ciara Cotter, our Clinical Nurse Manager, had the incredible opportunity to speak at the Nursing and Midwifery Conference 2024! The presentation focused on “A community-based collaborative approach to wound care for homeless clients”, with a focus on reducing barriers to wound care for homeless individuals. By taking a collaborative approach together with the Health Service Executive, we have initiated wound care clinics in Chester House, one of our Long Term High Support Housing services for people experiencing homelessness with mental health, addiction or personal care needs. The goal of this collaboration was to: ✨ Reduce barriers to healthcare for our clients ✨ Lower infection rates ✨ Prevent amputations ✨ Empower our clients with knowledge and care #HSEDubMidlandsNursingMidwifery2024 #HealthcareForAll #CommunityCare #WoundCare #HomelessHealthcare

At Dublin Simon, we are eagerly counting down the days to open the doors to Ireland’s first-of-a-kind health and addiction care facility. Our incredible team of nurses and support workers are also eager to start making a positive difference in our 100-bed Health and Addiction Care Facility at Usher's Island. Here are a few of their comments: “Staff and clients of Dublin Simon Community’s Clinical and Therapeutic services are working hard, running existing services and preparing to move to our new 100-bed facility at Usher's Island. Standing at the gateway to Dublin city, the facility is an emblem of hope to the clients with whom we work, and the wider communities in which we find ourselves. It symbolises our lasting commitment to making home, recovery and a life free from addiction; a reality” - Eavanna Maloney (CNM2 Clinical Services) “I am looking forward to all of us being under one roof and having readily available support. Just the aesthetics of the building itself makes one feel proud to be working there.” - Nurse “I am looking forward to most of the Dublin Simon services being in one place. I have great hopes for the future, with more support for all the clients.” - Support Worker Find out more on our website: https://lnkd.in/ecvasnfw. #DublinSimonUshers #EndHomelessness #HomelessSupport

Our amazing team at Chester House organised a BBQ for our clients, giving everyone a chance to enjoy the beautiful weather and some delicious food ☀️ Our service at Chester House provides High Support Accommodation for people experiencing homelessness with mental health, addiction or personal care needs. Residents are mostly individuals experiencing homelessness for long periods and are unable to live independently. On #InternationalDayOfYoga, we want to highlight our weekly yoga classes organised by our Client Development team. Our free yoga classes, led by two of our incredible part-time volunteers, bring much-needed peace and strength to our clients. Through the practice of yoga, our participants find not just physical relief, but also mental clarity and emotional resilience. One of our clients talks about our yoga classes and their impact: “The Client Development team provide a free weekly class, which I find very beneficial. It keeps my body and mind in good condition!! It really helps to keep my mind calm and has taught me how to actually manage myself during times of stress. Thanks Simon!” #DublinSimon #InternationalDayofYoga #YogaForAll #CommunityWellness #MentalHealthMatters
