    Last week, Biostime held its 2024 Symposium in Qingdao, China and celebrated ten years of BINC (Biostime Institute for Nutrition and Care). With the theme "ten years of working together to protect health", the event covered the latest achievements on LPN (Lactopontin), HMOs (Human Milk Oligosaccharides), and probiotics with over 130 attendees including leading scientists and scholars. H&H Group's Chief Technology Officer and Chairman of BINC, Hanno Cappon opened with a brief history of the last decade of achievements, followed by presentations from 10 influential speakers, including Prof Cai Wei on the clinical benefits of LPN, Prof David Newburg, on the glycobiology of human milk and HMOs and Dr Jonathan Lane PhD on new protein innovations. These sessions were chaired by authorities in the field: Prof Ma Aiguo, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Nutrition Society, Prof Su Yixiang from the School of Public Health Sun Yat sen University, Prof Wang Zhixu, Chairman of the Maternal and Child Nutrition Branch of the Chinese Nutrition Society, and Prof Yang Ruifu, Chairman of the Probiotics and Health Branch of the Chinese Nutrition Society. BINC received excellent feedback from thought leaders in a roundtable forum on its significant contributions to advancements and consensus in the field. The conference also featured a live online broadcast, engaging over 80,000 scholars and health care professionals globally.     Jacob Clayton has been with H&H Group for almost two years, leading the growth of Swisse Wellness (part of H&H Group) in the New Zealand market. As General Manager heading up national sales, marketing and operations, Jake has helped turn Swisse into a profit driving business, growing revenue by over 30% each year since 2022. He has delivered a number of highly impactful and disruptive marketing campaigns and has recently been awarded several accolades including an industry award for sales growth. Jake is particularly proud of Swisse for being acknowledged for its corporate social responsibility at the recent Natural Health Products NZ awards. The team took home two CSR awards in recognition of H&H Australia and New Zealand's B Corp certification as well as for responsible marketing, sustainability and employment policies.     The H&H Foundation and our North America team have proudly partnered with Paul Wanjigi Alpine boarding school (PWA High School) for 2024. This Kenya-based NGO supports vulnerable young boys in the community, providing them with a holistic education for a brighter and better future. Founded in 2022, the school has a current capacity of 60 students and offers a comprehensive curriculum including a dedicated lesson for life skills. The charity said of the partnership: "H&H's donation will be used to help with the development of a water solution for the school, like a well or water tank. Other priority projects include staff housing, a basketball court for the boys, and a computer lab with the solar power needed to support it." Access to education is an important part of how the H&H Foundation contributes globally to improving the lives of people worldwide. In this interview, Weerapong (Yu B.Sirikul) talks about growing up in Bangkok and how attending an all-boys secondary school helped shape him into the person he is today. As the first H&H employee to join the Thailand office in 2021, he has since seen the team double in size and thrives in his role as Marketing Manager for Swisse Wellness (part of H&H Group), being a key driver for local brand expansion.  Yu believes: "To me, inclusion means embracing everyone including myself.     World Environment Day is a global initiative by the United Nations that is observed each year on 5th June, aiming to raise awareness and take action on pressing environmental issues. This year's campaign focuses on "land restoration, desertification and drought resilience", encouraging governments, businesses and individuals to support the environment around us to create a more sustainable world. At H&H we understand the significance of responsible water stewardship and we are committed to reducing water usage throughout our operations. We strive to implement efficient practices that promote the responsible treatment and management of water resources.     Julie Ponzio (Julie P) joined H&H Group in 2022, as a Global Consumer Market Insights (CMI) Manager. Bringing a wealth of experience in consumer insights and market intelligence, Julie provides global support at H&H to each of our local marketing teams, helping them develop our premium brands across pet, adult and baby nutrition. She thrives on the diversity of her projects and the cross-cultural aspects of her role, assisting teams from the US to Italy or France, and Southeast Asia. Her responsibilities include executing qualitative and quantitative research, such as concept testing, packaging, and ad testing as well as analysing market insights and consumer trends, and securing claims for our products.     Last week, our H&H Research & Development team participated in the 56th annual meeting of the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN) in Milan. The team proudly presented Biostime and Inostime infant milk (a recent finalist at the NutraIngredients awards), maternal and HMObiotics innovations at our BINC and H&H Research booths. Plus, our very own Hanno Cappon, chairman of BINC hosted a satellite symposium titled "Osteopontin (OPN) - Multifunctional Protein in Human Milk - What's New?". Featuring two prominent Key Opinion Leaders: Prof. Sorensen from Aarhus University, Denmark, and Prof. Cai Wei from Shanghai School of Medicine, China. We also presented a series of highly-relevant scientific studies with new findings from our teams in Guangzhou and Ireland. Thank you to those who attended and represented H&H from Europe, China and Australia. This event is a great opportunity for our team to meet key innovation partners, paediatricians and other health professionals and scientists from across the world.     We're pleased to announce our Q1 2024 results, achieving positive growth for our nutritional supplements category which continues to be our key growth driver. The Adult Nutrition and Care segment saw strong growth, fuelled by an impressive performance by Swisse in its core markets of mainland China (outpacing overall market growth) and Australia & New Zealand. Our Pet Nutrition and Care segment also performed well with steady growth as we reached a significant milestone with the launch of Zesty Paws across Europe and Southeast Asia. The Baby Nutrition and Care segment faced difficulties in mainland China due to issues across the infant milk formula market - but looks set to stabilise in the second half of the year.
