Our 2024 management trainees and interns have made a great start! Over the past month they have kickstarted their professional growth by engaging in our well-crafted onboarding programs. The MTs experienced a fully packed orientation week. In addition to regular training, they embarked on a 2-day team-building session outside the office to familiarize themselves with Hang Lung’s core values and culture. A gathering with key management executives and former MTs also allowed them to learn from their experiences and insights. Through collaboration with official bodies and non-profit organizations, our internship program brings together students from various backgrounds. We have also paired each intern with a dedicated "buddy" – a colleague from the same department to provide guidance and support. This first month has laid a strong foundation for our management trainees and interns, who are ready to grow in Hang Lung. School is out for the summer break! Our Hang Lung As One Volunteer Teams in Hong Kong and Shanghai have organized Summer Movie Days for children to enjoy a joyful holiday!   In Hong Kong, over 70 students and their families from the Ebenezer School & Home for the Visually Impaired, together with the Hang Lung As One volunteers, enjoyed the advance screening of the Disney and Pixar movie, Inside Out 2, in early July at Grand Kornhill Cinema, #KornhillPlaza. Our volunteers equipped themselves by learning tips and sight guide techniques for watching movies with the visually impaired prior to the event.   Another movie-watching activity was hosted with The Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong(BGCA) at MCL Amoy Cinema, #AmoyPlaza, featuring Despicable Me 4 from a beloved movie series. 130 children and parents of vulnerable groups attended and learned about “Love Languages” at the event. This heartwarming movie was also screened at #GrandGateway66 in Shanghai for grassroots children accompanied by our volunteers.   We are grateful to have been able to give the children this special movie experience through these activities that remind us of the power of care and inclusion. As a landlord, we have a unique opportunity to support our tenants' sustainability efforts. That's why we will be hosting #ChangemakersSeries training sessions for our tenants, focusing on various ESG topics.  We hosted the inaugural Changemakers Series session for our F&B tenants on “Waste and Circularity”. With Hong Kong’s recent plastic product regulations, we brought in two distinguished speakers to share their expertise.  Mr. Angus Ho, Executive Director of Greeners Action, shared insights on the new regulations and best practices from around the world, and Ms. Suzanne Cheung, Head of Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability at Swire Coca-Cola HK, discussed the company's pioneering efforts in eco-design packaging and their vision for a circular economy in Hong Kong. The session also fostered networking, enabling tenants to explore opportunities for collaboration. We're more motivated than ever to keep the sustainability momentum going, through future events that inspire and empower our tenants. Sustainability is of critical importance in our rapidly evolving world, and calls for collaboration. Launched in December 2023, our nationwide sustainability partnership program Changemakers aims to empower tenants to reduce carbon emissions and waste, advance circularity, and enhance community wellbeing. By pooling our diverse perspectives and resources, landlords and tenants can collaborate on a much broader scale to address complex sustainability challenges. We are already seeing enthusiastic responses, with 16 like-minded tenants joining our Program as pilot participants. Spanning across various sectors including office, retail, F&B, and hospitality, these participants collectively represent a total leased area of more than 78,000 square meters across 14 properties. Congratulations to the 10 recipients in the second cohort of “The Hang Lung Scholarship and Development Donation for the Visually Impaired”.   At the Joint Graduation Ceremony for Ebenezer School, Ebenezer New Hope School, and Ebenezer Child Care Centre last week, Ms. So Yuen Yi, Louise, Deputy Secretary of Education, Education Bureau, joined Mr. Kenneth Chiu, Chief Financial Officer of Hang Lung Properties, in presenting the scholarships to the 10 young talents.   The exceptional performance of these visually impaired youths in academics, professional fields, and social causes reinforces our belief that individuals can overcome obstacles to realize their full potential. At Hang Lung, circularity is at the heart of our sustainability efforts.  We not only integrate it into our operations but also collaborate with multiple partners to engage stakeholders in giving new life to used items, including old clothes and red packets. In partnership with Redress , we collected 3,500+ kg of pre-loved clothes, with 95% finding new purpose through donation, resale, or upcycling. The hello Hang Lung Malls Rewards Program (hello app) encourages customer participation in this sustainable initiative; together, we're transforming fashion and reducing landfill waste. Also, we added value and meaning to a cherished tradition of giving and receiving seasonal blessings through Greeners Action, as we repurposed more than 1,700 kg of used red packets via the “Lai See Reuse and Recycle Program” with our stakeholders. We aim to reduce waste and foster a culture of sustainable living by empowering our communities – customers, tenants, employees, and many others – to adopt eco-friendly habits through many more circularity initiatives.
