A few people left feedback on that an empty "Favorites" category tile may be confusing to first time users.

  • Phil: Enhancement: Add favorites capability arcgis-runtime-samples-ios#1159 (comment)
  • Lucas: When the app opens, the first thing I see to click is the Favorites category, so I clicked on that. When that opens, it’s just an empty list. I was thinking that maybe there would already be some default favorites in there, so I was a bit confused. I think favoriting a sample might be a “power user” type of workflow, so making that the very first item in the grid might be confusing for a new user that is exploring the app for the first time, as they will very likely just click the first thing they see. So, there are a few things you could consider:
    • don’t make favorites the first item
    • add some defaulted favorites
    • add some brief instructional text in the empty favorite list view that let’s the user know how to add favorites

My take is that the favorites tile will most likely be used by power user and internal colleagues. We can hide the tile when there is no favorited samples.
