1Well, it makes sense for "file priviledge" errors to go away when you have adming priviledges. As for what caused it, we can't really answer that without more information. Are you using Steam on Windows, Mac, Linux? Did something happen before Steam stopped working? Did you change the location where Steam installs its games? Did you move games that have been already installed? Try to give us as much information and be as specific as you can.– NolonarCommented Nov 22, 2023 at 20:31

I am on windows 11 nothing happened that would cause this my steam is on a different drive from where my games are but that's never been an issue until now and I haven't moved anything around– Spy006Commented Nov 22, 2023 at 20:42

What fixes did you try? Without knowing, they're likely to be suggested again. I see suggestions including clearing Steam's download cache, changing download settings to update region, verify game integrity, "Steam->Settings->Storage->Steam Library Folders->3-dot menu by folder->Repair", and "just reinstall". One more suggestion to stop the Intel graphics card process, but that seems dumb and like it would be temporary.– l3l_azeCommented Nov 23, 2023 at 0:16

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. minecraft-java-edition), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
