[Research New 👩🏼⚕️ ] Excited to share a new article published in @Pediatric Pulmonology. 👀 Study Overview A recent study conducted at Université Grenoble Alpes Hospital and AP-HP Armand Trousseau Hospital in Paris assessed the effectiveness of an automated system that uses mandibular jaw movement (MJM) to detect residual events in children aged 5 to 18 with severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). These children were treated by noninvasive ventilation or continuous positive airway pressure. 🌟 Impact This study showed that MJM automated analysis is not only a reliable method to assess residual events in a population of ventilated children by showing a good agreement between MJM-AHI and PSG-AHI, but also highlighted its potential as a valuable tool for monitoring CPAP effectiveness at home. Such findings expand the practical utility of Sunrise in clinical settings, presenting new perspectives for its application. 👉🏻Full publication available here: https://lnkd.in/e3k_4gsj Kudos to the research team! #PediatricSleepApnea #HealthTech #ChildHealth #SleepResearch

Why Asia? In case you missed it, this week we took a massive stride at LSI — one that we anticipate will better support the industry we love: The launch of LSI Asia, the third geography in our global Emerging Medtech Summit series, which will be inaugurated with LSI Asia ‘25 at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore (June 10-13, 2025). The response from our community has been tremendous. Amidst the excitement, the question of “Why Asia?” was one I received a few times yesterday. So, why the time is right for LSI (and you) to take special interest in Asia and its role in global Medtech and Healthtech?: 1. Innovation We’ve seen a shift from “me too” plays in the region to innovation at the forefront of Deep Tech, Robotics, AI, and more. Chronic diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancers, and diseases of aging are driving policy, investment, startups. 2. Investment Plethora of strong and increasingly-sophisticated venture investors and LPs across established areas, and emerging areas like Singapore. Singapore in particular has the right conditions in place for flexible and efficient investment: a supportive government, prominent institutional investors, sovereign wealth funds, family offices and high-net-worth individuals, and attractive tax and financial structures. 3. Partnerships and BD The data doesn’t lie. LSI’s Market Intelligence projects that China will surpass the US in total surgical procedure volumes in 2024, with four of the five fastest growing countries in total volume being China, India, South Korea, and Singapore. With the established partnerships between academia, government, and innovation, and outsized production of locally-made medical devices, the region is ripe for global partnerships in an increasingly global industry. I have more thoughts on Asia and why we chose this location, and will be publishing them on our website this week. In the meantime, get in touch with us if you'd like to get involved at LSI Asia ‘25. Details here -> https://lnkd.in/e-P687Eh See you in Singapore.

Last month the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and GE HealthCare announced their collaboration to provide mammography technology, training and educational tools to radiologists at national muhimbili hospital (MNH), part of the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied sciences (MUHAS), in Tanzania to improve access to screening and help clinicians lower the country’s breast cancer mortality rate. MNH at MUHAS is a public hospital serving Dar es Salaam, the largest city in Tanzania, and did not have a working mammography machine. For women in Tanzania, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer mortality, with more than 80% of diagnoses happening at stage III or IV when the odds of long-term survivability are much lower. Additionally, the lifetime risk for developing breast cancer is approximately one in twenty, and approximately half of all women diagnosed with breast cancer in the country die of the disease. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide, affecting both developed and developing countries. Its impact transcends borders, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds. To help improve radiology education and patient care around the world, RSNA developed the Global Learning Center (GLC) program that works to create learning centers with established radiology departments based in low- or middle-resourced countries, like Tanzania. Through this program, a team of RSNA members works with the institution over three years to develop a customized curriculum with in-person, hands-on training, didactic lectures, conferences, online courses and other education offerings. MUHAS is part of the RSNA GLC program and is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). As part of the new agreement, GE HealthCare will install the Pristina Mammography Suite, which includes 2D and 3D digital breast tomosynthesis, Contrast Enhanced Mammography (CEM), CEM Biopsy capabilities and a Seno Iris workstation, at MUHAS, as well as provide maintenance of the system at no charge to the university. Approximately twenty nurses, radiologists and techs will be involved with the mammography suite. Live trainings under the grant will cover operation of the system, image interpretation, patient care, video tutorials, case study learning, engagement of physicians in a peer learning network and, upon course completion, a GE HealthCare-issued certification. In addition to improving the level of radiologic practice and breast care throughout the region, the collaboration between GE HealthCare, MUHAS and RSNA will also work to raise awareness about the importance of breast cancer screening and early detection among Tanzanians. Since the RSNA GLC program’s introduction in 2020, RSNA has established sites in South Africa, Tanzania, Ecuador, Indonesia and Armenia. #gehealthcare #RSNA #mammography #breastcancer

Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to join other leaders from Siemens Healthineers in an innovation exchange with our partner UNICEF. We discussed a number of challenges in improving access to healthcare in LMICs including developing the business case to secure resources as well as scaling beyond successful pilot projects and the importance of alignment among the different actors on the intended impact. What struck me is that although we approach the topic from different angles, our two organizations share a strong commitment to applying innovation to improving healthcare for the most vulnerable. The discussions that resonated with me the most were around setting the priority for what you are seeking to achieve. One of the innovation managers in the room defined the remit for himself and his team as "acceleration of impact". Essentially impact + speed -- what a powerful way to approach innovation for low resource environments! We discussed that there are a lot of good ideas to be leveraged, but speed and agility are critical to ensure communities benefit from those solutions. In the area of idea generation, there is a strong focus on "from the field to the field". UNICEF has country teams in most countries of the world, and they drive their innovation process from the perspective of the field based teams to match country needs with practical solutions, often co-developed with industry partners, very effectively. This perspective to start "on the ground" listening to local needs is really best practice for both product and service innovation. After an inspiring day, we take away a strengthened partnership and several new topics to look into together across the spectrum of innovation to improve access to healthcare #foreverychild. We are proud to partner with UNICEF to improve healthcare in lab system strengthening in Ghana and Ivory Coast as part of our commitment to pioneer breakthroughs in healthcare. For everyone. Everywhere. Sustainably.
