Mr Bharat Patel, NMSG Chair, Mr Wim Huiskamp NMSG Scientific Advisor and Member-at-Large, and other members of the NMSG recently participated in the Defence, Simulation, Education & Training (DSET) event, held from 10-13 June in Bristol, UK. The NMSG representatives presented and discussed a wide range of topics at the event, including: - AI and cyber challenges - Interoperability and standardization - Wargaming - M&S technology and procurement DSET activities have important implications for women in defence and security, and can help to expand the workforce to include the next generation of M&S specialists. The NMSG is eager to engage in such activities, as part of its efforts to enhance M&S interoperability and coherence in support of NATO operations.

The NMSG promotes cooperation among Alliance bodies, NATO Nations and Partners to maximize the effective use of M&S.
À propos
NATO and its partners extensively use Modelling and Simulation (M&S) for various purposes like training, mission rehearsal, decision support, and in acquisition processes. The NMSG’s mission is to promote co-operation among Alliance bodies, NATO Member Nations and Partner Nations to maximize the effective utilization of M&S. The NMSG facilitates pooling and sharing of M&S resources and capabilities, efforts and knowledge of nations to provide more than any individual nation could on its own. The NMSG helps nations and organizations to align M&S-related investments and efforts, and to avoid redundant work.

We would like to thank everyone who contributed to our #NATO stand at the recent International Training Technology Exhibition & Conference (IT2EC) in London, (UK). Held under the theme of “Enabling operational advantage through training and simulation”, #IT2EC included two panel sessions on “Live Virtual Constructive Concept Experiment” and on “Next Generation M&S and Distributed Synthetic Training”, chaired by Mr. Wim Huiskamp (NMSG Scientific Advisor). #IT2EC was a great opportunity for the STO-NMSG to highlight recent achievements and works in progress on the exhibition floor and to present papers at the conference sessions. We are proud to continue exhibiting our work at #IT2EC and to share more information on the critical role that modelling and simulation play in supporting NATO operations.

“The biggest benefit for NATO and its Allies is access to a broader spectrum of resources, which almost immediately translates into better training and simulation capabilities.” Scientists from the NATO Modelling and Simulation Group (NMSG), together with researchers from industry, are developing a new platform that aims to serve as a “one stop shop” for the simulation technologies that Nations need to improve military training and support operational decision-making. We are happy to announce the kickoff of a new Task Group on “Evolving M&S Applications and Services for Compliance with NATO Standards for Federated Simulation”. Over the next three years, the team will work to advance the NATO HLA Certification process and further develop M&S integration, verification, and compliance test (IVCT) tools based on the NATO Education and Training Network Federation Object Model (NETN-FOM) standard. IVCT is an open source NATO tool available on GitHub (https://github.com/IVCTool). The team met for the first time on 20-21 March to begin work on enhancing simulation capabilities while ensuring adherence to rigorous standards. We look forward to the innovations and collaborations that lie ahead as we strive to enhance interoperability and effectiveness across the Alliance. #NATO #Simulation #Interoperability #MSG223 #Collaboration

We are thrilled to announce that NATO MSG-191 concluded its final meeting last week, marking the culmination of collaborative efforts that began in 2021. The team has delivered the AMSP-04 Ed C standard for NATO Education and Training Network Federation Object Model (NETN-FOM), alongside cutting-edge tools for integration, verification, and compliance testing (IVCT). This milestone underscores our commitment to bolstering NATO's capabilities through seamless simulation interoperability, and we thank the team for their dedication and expertise throughout this journey. #NATO #Education #Training #Interoperability #AMSP04 #MSG191 #NMSG

Experts affiliated with the NATO Modelling and Simulation Group (NMSG) participated this week in the 2024 Simulation Innovation Workshop (SIW), organised by the Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (SISO), where they provided support on the development and maintenance of civil standards that are essential to modelling and simulation interoperability within NATO. Similar standardization products have been adopted via STANAGs or STANRECs, under the Technical Cooperation Agreement between the NMSG and SISO, and were subsequently implemented within NATO. Mr Bharat Patel, NMSG Chair, delivered a keynote address to the SISO plenary, and several papers were presented during workshops to the international modelling and simulation community.
