The next #Ariane6 is planned for launch this year on its first commercial flight under #Arianespace as operator and launch service provider. The #success of this first flight marks the start of Ariane 6’s operational career, giving Europe an autonomous access to space. The new launcher’s order book is proof of the #versatility of Ariane 6 and of its capacity to accomplish a wide range of missions into multiple orbits. It reflects the confidence that customers have in Ariane 6 for both their institutional and commercial missions. We are eager to begin operating our new launcher. At 22:06 CEST 9 July, one hour after liftoff, the first set of satellites onboard #Ariane6 were released from the upper stage and placed into an orbit 600 km above Earth. Satellites and experiments from various #space agencies, companies, research institutes, universities and young professionals were included on this inaugural flight. ✅ #Ariane6 launch update: 🔧 As part of normal operations in the Ariane 6 preparation after mobile gantry removal, routine checks in the ground segment equipment showed a small issue in the data acquisition. The #Vega launcher is gearing up for a comeback early September ! Its passenger, the Sentinel-2C satellite, has now started its maritime journey towards the European Spaceport in French Guiana! 🛰️ Built by Airbus Defence and Space, the Sentinel-2C satellite is part of #Copernicus, the Earth observation component of the European Union’s Space programme. Another launch (a Vega C launch) will follow a few months after to complete the Copernicus family (stay tuned 😉 !). ⛵️Placed onto the iconic #Canopée, the first sail-assisted cargo ship pioneering environmental responsibility in industrial shipping, Sentinel 2C is set to arrive in Kourou, French Guiana, in two weeks. #Arianespace will deploy the satellite into Low Earth Orbit (LEO). The VV24 mission is scheduled for September. The countdown begins for the highly anticipated inaugural launch of #Ariane6 from the CSG in French Guiana, ushering in a new era of heavy-lift vehicles. Yesterday, our CCO, Steven Rutgers, was invited to speak at the Washington Space Business Roundtable on a panel discussing new heavy-lift vehicles. He emphasised that Ariane 6 isn’t just a rocket, but a testament to efficiency and versatility. Designed to offer significant cost savings and flexible mission capabilities, Ariane 6 can reach any orbit while maintaining the highest standards of quality, reliability, and schedule assurance. With an impressive order book of 30 launches, its commercial viability is clear and compelling. For over 40 years, Arianespace has been a cornerstone of the U.S. space sector, trusted by nearly every major U.S. satellite operator. The epic launch of the James Webb Telescope—through a partnership between NASA, CSA and ESA—underscores this special relationship. "The EU should enforce the principle of European launcher preference,“ said our Head of Public Affairs Charlotte Lang at the #EUSpaceForum in Brussels. During the Panel “Ensuring long term autonomous access to space for Europe”, Charlotte underlined the need for the EU to legislate that European missions are launched from European territory using launchers and technology manufactured in Europe by European providers. This policy would strengthen the long-term autonomous access to space to Europe, with the upcoming IRIS² constellation being a perfect opportunity to advance this initiative. A heartfelt thank you to Isabella Poldrugo, Toni Tolker-Nielsen, Raúl Verdú and Olivier Lemaitre for a very constructive and insightful discussion. Additionally, our appreciation goes to Forum Europe for organising and inviting us to this exciting event, which brings together key industry leaders, policy makers and experts for two days of face-to-face debate.  We are looking forward to next year. What were your key takeaways from this event?

#Ariane6 has successfully completed the wet dress rehearsal before its inaugural launch! ✅ On 20 June, the Ariane 6 flight model-1 was fuelled on the launchpad and subsequently drained of fuel in preparation for launch. The wet dress rehearsal included a full countdown to launch stopping as planned just a few seconds before a lift-off. This allows teams to improve and fine tune the launch system using the actual flight hardware and software in view of the inaugural flight. In parallel the chronology was accompanied by a rehearsal of the launch range that was configured for the inaugural flight of Ariane 6. The data gathered from the wet dress rehearsal will take at least a week to analyse in full and results will be communicated in the next task force update. Together with European Space Agency - ESA, Centre National d'Études Spatiales and ARIANESPACE, we are eagerly looking forward to the first target launch date of 9 July.
