Title says it. I open Chrome and I get a banner saying: "Google Chrome" Notifications. Notifications may include alerts, sounds and icon badges." I get the option to allow or not allow, but it doesn't matter which one I choose. Next time I open Chrome I get the same banner again. I would like to allow notifications but the main thing is to get rid of this reappearing banner. Can anyone help?

I am running OS 12.7.3 and Chrome 126.

Go to System Preferences - Notifications and turn notifications on/off for Chrome.
You should consider updating to macOS 12.7.5.

Thanks, I've done that a hundred times. Screenshot 1 shows the setting I prefer. Next time I opened Chrome it showed me the banner again (screenshot 2). Then there are two Chrome entries in the system prefs (screenshot 3). After the next reboot Chrome will show the banner again. So very annoying.

Google Chrome will always put two entries in Notification Settings - I think that's normal for Chromium based browsers.

The notification issue you mention is odd, but I would accept notifications in both entries.

As a last resort, you can delete the plist that stores Notifications preferences ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.ncprefs.plist and log out/reboot.

Thanks, I now believe the problem was that one of the two entries was set not to accept notifications. Since I've set them both to identical values the annoying banner hasn't shown up anymore.
