I think you're either mistaken or that's an insane coincidence because I can't see OPs profile. Also, I'm from Halifax, NS and Apple Halifax Shopping Center has availability of both one-pack and four-packs of AirTags.
The part numbers recently changed from (single) MX532AM/A & (four) MX542AM/A to ...LL/A so bookmarks might not work as expected, but Airtags are definitely available online & in stores.
Got on chat with Apple and they confirmed that they saw the same glitch when trying to put this into shopping bag.
They were able to finally get the AirTags into a bag and then share that with me to allow purchase.

If you don't need them right now, I would rather hold off until they get updated with the U2 chip. That would enable precision finding and therefore better location tracking.
