Islands Around The United Kingdom

This group is for IMAGES OF ANY OF THE ISLANDS GEOGRAPHICALLY IN WATERS AROUND THE UNITED KINGDOM (i.e.in the waters surrounding England, Scotland, Wales ONLY). Please note that England, Scotland and Wales constitute the mainland of the United Kingdom and are not, for the purposes of this group, classed as an Island in water around the mainland.

Since Spring 2024 the CHANNEL ISLANDS are now included in this group.

Very important: THE LOCATION OF YOUR IMAGE MUST BE MENTIONED IN THE PICTURE INFORMATION OR TITLE INCLUDING THE NAME OF THE ISLAND AND WHICH PART OF THE UK MAINLAND IT IS CLOSEST TO. For example, Anglesey is an island off the north-west coast of Wales so your picture must include the words ANGLESEY and WALES or for pictures of the Isle Of Lewis must include the word LEWIS and SCOTLAND. Without this information your picture will not be accepted. To add interest for the viewer it would be nice if you can find some interesting information and/or a description of the place itself.

Please keep your HORIZONS straight.

YOUR ISLAND MUST BE IN WATER OFF THE MAINLAND OF ENGLAND, SCOTLAND AND WALES ONLY. This group is not for islands in any other part of the world, even if they are part of the Commonwealth. It is ONLY for those islands which can be found GEOGRAPHICALLY CLOSE TO England, Scotland and Wales. The areas covered by this group do not extend as far as the Channel Isles, nor any of the islands around the world under UK rule.

SUBJECTS COVERED are the islands themselves, wildlife (please NO SPIDERS) and plants INDIGENOUS TO THE ISLAND of your picture / people / culture / architecture / geographical and geological images. Subjects which can be found anywhere, unless specifically connected to your island, will probably be rejected...for example, a bicycle against a wall or a trumpet on a table. If, however, these items were to be incorporated in a general view or a specific event they may be acceptable. The same applies to animals and plant life....unless indigenous to your island, they need to show something of their island surroundings.

ACCEPTED are your own ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPHS, your own ORIGINAL DRAWINGS, your own ORIGINAL PAINTINGS, but NOT digital art. Drawings and paintings must be based on actual places and must be named in your description. Discrete digital alterations may be acceptable - your host will make the decision on each individual submission of images altered from your own original photographs, paintings or drawings. NO AI WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED. NO 'LITTLE PLANET' POST PROCESSING IMAGES WILL BE ACCEPTED

SUBMISSIONS - there is no limit to the number of submissions per day but please do not flood the group all at once with more than around 4 or 5 per day.

FEATURES....These are awarded once a week and are the best 12 in the gallery at the time of selection in the opinion of the administrator. Please note, your pictures will not automatically find their way onto the home page feature section....only the 12 Best will be chosen each week. To win a feature please enter your very best pictures....for example, being sure to keep your horizons straight, keeping to natural colouring in your pictures and keep them in focus.

CONTESTS.....Please join the group before (or when) entering contests so that you can keep up to date with group messaging concerning the contest. Only group members will, from January 2022, be featured on the home page, even if winning the contest, should an entry from a non-member slip in un-noticed. The winning images shown on the home page will the the top three MEMBER'S works.
