Owning Manhattan star talks career shift into real estate

Netflix’s "Owning Manhattan" has exploded in popularity as viewers get an inside look into the elite world of New York City real estate. Serhant real estate agent Jessica Markowski navigates high-stakes deals with billionaire clients, but surprisingly enough, she didn't get her start in real estate. Markowski sits down with Alexandra Canal to discuss her career shift from fashion influencer into real estate and what anyone looking for a career change should know about the job. Markowski says that the first year is always the hardest when getting into real estate: "If you stay persistent, just like when you work out, if you really find this to be a routine, you can become very good at it. But it doesn't come overnight.. the work, the grind, the persistency allows you to become successful." She notes that while the show's trailer captures a lot of the glamor behind the job, it doesn't capture the tough moments. "They exist 50% of the time too," she tells Yahoo Finance. After leaving the fashion world for real estate, Markowski encourages anyone considering a career shift to go for it. "You can't go like half-foot in. I really think if you really want to pursue the career in real estate — or any job for that matter — you have to put all your eggs into that basket to be successful." She adds that skills from previous jobs are always transferable, stating, "You're still a valuable asset to any other company you join."
