A taxi driver would never drive for 45 minutes and then (!) ask you "Where would you like to go?" So why are Q&A's at the end of a speech? A speech is like a journey. So isn't it better if the speaker can find out what kind of journey the audience wants to go on in the beginning? So, at yesterday's dinner speech event, after a short intro by me, I asked the audience to tell me what they wanted me to speak on - and then, while they were having their starter, I created the speech on the spot (!) based on their feedback. It turned out to become a speech about these questions: How to implement a creative culture? How to get rid of the roadblocks that kill creativity in companies? How can I change my behavior as a leader? What triggers creativity the best? The audience got just what they wanted. Improvising a speech could totally flop, but if you really know your topic, understand how to listen carefully to what the audience is asking for, and have the skill to create speech structure in the moment, it can be magical. The best stand-up comedy can come in moments of co-creation with the audience. And, done right, so can a great keynote speech. #creativity #speaking #improvising #listeningtotheaudience This was the last speaking assignment for the spring 2024 season. This time for Management Events in Munich. (This was the end of a hectic week that started in Cebu on Sunday, then Singapore on Monday , Munich on Wednesday, and now back to Sweden for summer break on the island!
