Dora is an animated children's television series created by Chris Gifford and Valerie Walsh Valdes for the streaming service Paramount+. It premiered on April 12, 2024.[5] It is a reboot of the animated series Dora the Explorer (2000–2019), created by Gifford, Walsh Valdes, and Eric Weiner.[6]
On April 24, 2024, it was announced that Paramount+ renewed the show for a second season.[7]
Premise
[edit]A reboot of the original series, the series follows the adventures of Dora and her monkey friend, Boots as they go on epic adventures in a rainforest. Accompanied by Dora's Map, Dora and her friends must work as a team to overcome many obstacles in the rainforest, including being challenged by Swiper.

[edit]- Dora Márquez (voiced by Diana Zermeño[4]): The titular character of the series, who is a 7-year old Latina girl.
- Boots (voiced by Asher Spence[4]): Dora's monkey best friend who is the co-host of the series.
- Swiper (voiced by Marc Weiner, reprising his role from the original series[4]): The main antagonist in the series, an orange fox who steals or attempts to steal key items that help Dora and Boots on their adventures.
- Mapa (voiced by Anairis Quiñones[4]): A helpful talking map, who helps Dora and her friends on how they can get to their main place. Map's gender is changed from male to female for the reboot.
- Backpack (voiced by Katarina Sky[4]): Dora's talking backpack, who helps Dora on her adventures by holding things she needs.
- Grumpy Old Troll (voiced by Danny Burstein[4]): A yellow creature who lives under the bridge. When someone crosses the bridge (notably Dora and Boots), he tells them to solve a riddle to proceed to their destination.
- Tico (voiced by Donovan Monzon-Sanders[4]): A 4-year-old Spanish-speaking squirrel who is one of Dora and Boots' friends.
- Isa (voiced by Tandi Fomukong[4]): An iguana who is smart and mature and is also one of Dora and Boots' friends.
- Benny (voiced by Quintún Muñoz-Rademacher[4]): A bull who lives in a barn and is the loyal person of the group. He is also one of Dora and Boots' friends.
- Big Red Chicken (voiced by Chris Gifford[4]): A large red bird.
- The Fiesta Trio (Frog and Marmoset voiced by Danny Burstein, Armadillo voiced by Anairis Quiñones[4]): They are a trio of small creatures who play instruments and are friends with Dora and Boots.

Production
[edit]The series reboot was announced and revealed in 2021 by Brian Robbins at the ViacomCBS' Investors Day Event. The series was ordered by Paramount+ and was originally set to premiere in 2023,[9] but was delayed to 2024.
The dialogue was recorded at Burbank-based Atlas Oceanic Sound and Picture and New York City-based Hyperbolic Audio.[10] The series is a co-production between Nickelodeon Animation Studio and Ontario-based, Pipeline Studios.
The series was executive-produced by Rich Magallanes, Chris Gifford, and Valerie Walsh Valdes, while Henry Lenardin-Madden serves as a co-executive, and Alejandro Bien-Willner serves as the editor to the series. Marielle Kaar also serves as the executive in charge of production for the series. [11]
Release
[edit]Prior to the series official launch date, sneak peeks have been resurfaced on the franchise's official YouTube channel since September 30, 2023.[12]
The series has premiered on April 12, 2024 (with the first season of 26 episodes), exclusively on Paramount+ in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Australia.[4] The series also aired on the Nick Jr. Channel internationally.[13]
Merchandise
[edit]In addition to being released on Paramount+, the reboot also includes a toy line from Spin Master to promote the series.[14]
