Revert of ALL CAPS addition

Hi Morning, I came across your revert of addition of a school name in all Caps. I am not sure if its the right thing to revert it rather than changing the case. Of course one might argue that its not the work of RC Patroller using a tool, but you can leave it for others. Also I agree that its not correct to add text in all caps and any reasonable editor will change it to lower case whenever he sees it, but reverting this important piece of Info is in a way "damaging". It is quite possible that IP or new user who added this wanted his school to appear prominent with all caps which may explain his flawed decision of adding it in all caps. But I certainly dont agree with reverting them, would like to hear your opinion about it.--DBigXray 12:54, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My rational was exactly what you said in the previous paragraph. First, it was an IP editor which carries a lot of weight when it comes to me deciding on reverting something (I usually take the time to look at past edits of a logged in user but do not waste my time doing so with IP editors - not that there aren't good edits from IP's, just not near as many good edits as there are from logged in editors). Next, CAPS is always something that stands out. I understand that the IP may have wanted his school to stand out; however, he could see that the other schools are in lower case and therefore should have taken a hint. Finally, I was using a tool (STiki). When I use the tool, I usually pass on something like this, but keeping everything else in mind (IP editor, other schools in lower case that were visible to the editor), I did the revert. I would agree that it would do more good to go in and fix the edit; however, this would have also required additional work as far as verifying that this information was correct. Also, I always keep in mind that if it is good information and the person really wants the information, there would re-add it or discuss it so that it could be added. Sometimes it is kind of hard to slow down when using STiki. Anyways, sorry to ramble on and thanks for pointing this out. --Morning277 (talk) 17:56, 6 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • I would agree that it would do more good to go in and fix the edit; however, this would have also required additional work as far as verifying that this information was correct. Thats my Prime concern for making this thread. You as a RC patroller are obviously not bound to manually edit it, (although some users like me go the extra-mile ) but at the same time you should not revert obvious information like a school's name in a City article simply due to all Caps. (Actually, I agree with you there. I reverted as part of a mass editing spree and looking back I may not have reverted - or maybe I would have, I will have to see when faced with the same situation. Basically, it is a gut call at the time of the edit. I am sure that I have made some other reverts as well that maybe should not have but I can tell you that I do my best to assume good faith.).
  • I always keep in mind that if it is good information and the person really wants the information, there would re-add it or discuss it so that it could be added. No My friend, thats a seriously flawed assumption. Newbies get severely discouraged/demotivated seeing their edits disappearing. they conclude that its useless to contribute here as someone will revert their valid edits. and obviously you will not be there to explain them that "it was just the ALL CAPS that led to the revert and if they add it again it wont be reverted". (I also agree with you here. I took a break from Wiki for a few years and when I came back about 6 months ago it seems like there are a lot of people who bite everyone, not just newbies. It can be discouraging for people who have their edits removed).
  • Sometimes it is kind of hard to slow down when using STiki. :) but RC patrollers must not overspeed or they will be booked :P. On a serious note you can always press the I (Innocent) and move on in your momentum. (I think you meant "blocked", but please know that it was my attempt at humor - obviously it was not that funny). :)
  • It would be appreciated if whenever in doubt you assume good faith and do not revert, better to leave it for some one who can devote more time to that article and check it. regards--DBigXray 21:46, 6 August 2012 (UTC) (And will do. Thanks). --Morning277 (talk) 20:59, 8 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve National Underclassmen Combine

Thanks for creating National Underclassmen Combine, Morning277!

Wikipedia editor SarahStierch has tagged the page as having some issues to fix. In addition, they wrote this note for you:

There are aspects of this that promote how much money the program costs, and has no citations and reads somewhat advert like.

The tags on the page can be removed by you or another editor when the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on SarahStierch's talk page.

Learn more about page curation.

Thanks for the comments and letting me know about the tagging. It looks like there have been other contributions since the article was created. I will take a look and see if I can make it read less promotional. --Morning277 (talk) 21:18, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mouwad collection images

Hi,

Do you remember the Mouwad collection images? The OTRS was a bit complicated, partly because of the large number of images, partly because the OTRS team was backlogged, which lead to follow-up emails on the same lists.

Unfortunately, I got so caught up in managing the list of files, and eliminating duplicates, I overlooked that the permissions statement was limited to Wikipedia, and did not properly specify a license. What I would like to do is to work together to get this cleaned up.

I will put together the permissions statement, so all the copyright holder has to do is read it, and send it back, and I will take care of changing all the permission template to point to the new permission, and making sure the license matches the permission. Can I ask you to pull together a complete list of the images you uploaded relating to this collection, so I can include it in my permission statement?--SPhilbrick(Talk) 14:55, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I remember. It was a nightmare as there were so many images and I was trying to update older ones with some that were better resolution. Anyways, I appreciate you making the list for me and I will get it sent off. You have been more than helpful with the permission process. --Morning277 (talk) 15:10, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm hoping that you can create the list, is that possible?

Here is the ideal language (I did not inset the email address for privacy reasons, you should include it):

I hereby affirm that I, Fred Mouawad am sole owner of the exclusive copyright of the following list of file(s):

INSERT LIST HERE

I acknowledge that by doing so I grant anyone the right to use the work in a commercial product or otherwise, and to modify it according to their needs, provided that they abide by the terms of the license and any other applicable laws.
I am aware that this agreement is not limited to Wikipedia or related sites.
I am aware that I always retain copyright of my work, and retain the right to be attributed in accordance with the license chosen. Modifications others make to the work will not be claimed to have been made by me.
I acknowledge that I cannot withdraw this agreement, and that the content may or may not be kept permanently on a Wikimedia project.

If you need some wording to explain why you were asking, something like the following might work:

Dear Mr. Mouawad

Thank-you again for the large number of images you licensed so that they could be used in Wikipedia.
Unfortunately, the agent that processed the request missed that the original permission statement did not quite cover all of the essential points. To make the process easy, I have attached the ideal language, so that you simply need to read it, confirm it is acceptable, correct the date, and return. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thanks, Dan. It means a lot and I truly appreciate it. I know you are very busy with the academy but you will see that this editor is truly worthy of anything we can afford him. Think he would be a good admin. our conversations have been through email so I will let him know to get a hold of you on your talk page. AFC Backlog

Articles for Creation urgently needs YOUR help!

Articles for Creation is desperately short of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors, in reviewing submissions in the pending submissions queue. Currently there are 2902 submissions waiting to be reviewed and many help requests at our Help Desk.

Do you have what it takes?
  1. Are you familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines?
  2. Do you know what Wikipedia is and is not?
  3. Do you have a working knowledge of the Manual of Style, particularly article naming conventions?
  4. Are you autoconfirmed?
  5. Can you review submissions based on their individual merits?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog. You might wish to add {{AFC status}} or {{AfC Defcon}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions.

PS: we have a great AFC helper script at User:Timotheus Canens/afchelper4.js which helps in reviewing in just few edits easily!

We would greatly appreciate your help. Currently, only a small handful of users are reviewing articles. Any help, even if it's just 2 or 3 reviews, it would be extremely beneficial.
On behalf of the Articles for Creation project,
TheSpecialUser TSU
