Sardasht, far from the frontline, was notably [[Chemical bombing of Sardasht|attacked with chemical weapons]] by Iraqi forces under [[Saddam Hussein]] during the [[Iran–Iraq War]]. It was the first deliberate chemical attack against Iranian civilians.
