As an independent nonprofit, Electric Literature relies on the regular support of our members to make literature more exciting, relevant, and inclusive. Every year we help launch the careers of over 500 writers by introducing them to our audience of 3.5 million readers. With the support of our members, we:
- Pay every writer
- Keep everything free to read on electricliterature.com
- Do not charge submission fees
- Evaluate thousands of submissions per year (75% of the work published site-wide comes from open submissions)
- Provide hands-on editorial support for EL authors
- Prioritize emerging and marginalized writers
- Support the careers of EL writers long after publication
- Foster discovery for readers, host literary events, and create opportunities to engage in the literary community
To thank you for your support, members can submit their work year round, instead of waiting for open submission periods. Members also receive a response within three months, and a personal note from an editor with every submission. (Response time for non-members is six to eight months and does not include personal feedback.) Members also receive discounts on events, editorial services, and merchandise in our online store. STANDARD MEMBERSHIP
Standard memberships include all member benefits, and you have the option to be billed quarterly or yearly (at a discount). Memberships auto-renew unless canceled before the next billing cycle, and are tax deductible.
SUSTAINING MEMBERSHIP
One-third of Electric Literature's annual budget comes from memberships. Please consider supporting Electric Literature at a higher level. You will receive all the standard member benefits, and you have the option to be billed quarterly or yearly. Memberships auto-renew unless canceled before your next billing cycle, and are tax deductible.

- Access to a private member submission portal for Recommended Reading (short stories), The Commuter (flash, poetry, graphic narratives), and personal and critical essays.
- Guaranteed response time of three months or less.
- Personal note from an editor. (Response time for general submissions is six to eight months, with limited, week-long submission windows.)

GIFT MEMBERSHIPS
Memberships also make great gifts for the writers in your life. Simply purchase a gift membership, and forward the confirmation email to the lucky recipient. Gift memberships are tax deductible, good for one year, and do not renew.
