Mumbai rains: Flash floods choke parts of the finance capital, rail tracks submerged in water
Mumbai experienced heavy rainfall rainfall over the past 24 hours, leading to waterlogging in many parts of the city. According to BMC, in a six-hour span from 1 am to 7 am today, various parts of Mumbai received over 300 mm of rainfall. This heavy rain caused waterlogging in some low-lying areas and disrupted suburban train services. Given the expected heavy rain today, the BMC has declared a holiday for the first session for all BMC, government, and private schools and colleges in Mumbai.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Mumbai for today. Residents have been advised not to believe in rumors and to only step out if necessary.

    Mumbai local train updates

According to the latest update, Western Railway's Mumbai suburban trains are experiencing delays of up to 10 minutes due to water levels above the tracks between Matunga Road and Dadar caused by heavy rains. Efforts are underway to alleviate the situation with high-capacity water pumps actively draining water from the tracks, ensuring a smoother commute for Mumbai residents, the Railways said.

On the Central Railway, train services have been disrupted in many sections due to waterlogging. Train services on both the Down and Up Harbour lines between Vadala and Mankhurd have resumed. Harbour line services are now operating as follows: from Panvel (PNVL) to Mankhurd (MNKD) to Panvel, and from Goregaon to CSMT to Goregaon.

According to Swapnil Dhanraj Nila, CPRO of Central Railway, "The services on the Harbour Line were running normally until 9:30 AM. However, after 9:30 AM, heavy rains caused significant water accumulation on the tracks at Chunabhatti Station due to the overflow of the Mithi River. This led to a disruption of local services at Chunabhatti Station."

Currently, mainline services are running at a restricted speed. All Mail Express trains that were stranded due to heavy rains and waterlogging earlier this morning have now reached their destinations. Passengers on these trains have been provided with water, food, and all necessary assistance, Railways said.
